According to modern scientific research, licorice contains glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizic acid, licorice sugar and other ingredients, has anti-infection and anti-allergy effects, can regulate the body's immune function, anti-tumor and analgesic effects. In the Qing Dynasty, Ke Qin's "Shanghan Lai Su Ji·Shanghan Fuyi" emphasized that "Shengdi is the main ingredient, Ophiopogon japonicus is the secondary ingredient, and roasted licorice is the auxiliary ingredient. Large doses are used to replenish the true yin. This is the way to nourish yin." Tian Zonghan of the Qing Dynasty also believed that his prescription was "the ancestor of nourishing yin" in "Yi Ji You Yin Lun".

2. The main function of nourishing blood and qi is that a school of Chinese medicine represented by Tang Rongchuan of the Qing Dynasty believes that Zhigancao Decoction is a "great dose of nourishing blood and qi."

Mainly used to treat insufficient yin and blood after typhoid fever or in the recovery period of critical illness surgery, blood not nourishing the heart, weakness and lack of energy, chest tightness and palpitations, restlessness and insomnia, dry stool, slightly red tongue with little coating, and irregular pulse.

To sum up, the traditional uses of licorice are: 1. It is used to treat insufficient heart qi, irregular pulse, and palpitations. 2. Used for sexual deficiency syndrome. 3. Used for coughing. 4. Used for cramped pain in the abdomen and limbs. 5. Used for heat and toxic sores, sore throat, and treatment of drug and food poisoning. 6. Used to adjust the efficacy of medicine.
