What are the symptoms of Yin deficiency of the five internal organs?

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, Yin deficiency is a physical condition. Many modern young people have a fast pace of life, high pressure, excessive mental exhaustion, obvious physical overdraft, and often stay up late, lack of sleep, and like spicy food. If this continues for a long time, it will lead to yin deficiency problems. So, what are the symptoms of Yin deficiency in the five internal organs? How should we judge whether we have Yin deficiency?

Two manifestations of Yin deficiency constitution:

The first symptom: Insufficient nutrients (yin fluid) in the body, which reduces the nourishing function of the whole body and shows the characteristic of "dryness"

For example: dizziness, weight loss, dry and wrinkled hair and skin, dull complexion, or more pigmentation spots, dry mouth, dry and sore throat, or long-term dry cough, dry eyes, rapid vision loss, sore waist and weak legs, tinnitus, forgetfulness, oliguria, constipation, dry and red tongue with little or no coating, or even smooth and without coating, or repeated attacks of oral ulcers, etc.

The second manifestation: symptoms of deficiency-heat and hyperactivity

This is because the metabolism of Yin deficiency constitution is too fast, oxygen consumption and heat production increase, and the human body is in a state of continuous excitement. For example: the palms and soles feel hot after fatigue, there is a low fever in the afternoon or evening, the face is easily heated, the cheeks are flushed, the mood is irritable, the mind is tired but it is difficult to fall asleep, or there is excessive sweating during sleep, palpitations, and a weak pulse; men have hypersexuality, or frequent nocturnal emissions, and women have increased menstrual flow, etc. Laboratory examinations indicate that typical Yin deficiency constitution has symptoms of hyperfunction of the adrenal cortex, decreased immune function, low estrogen levels in middle-aged women, decreased bone density, and high blood viscosity.

Overall characteristics: Deficiency of Yin fluid, with symptoms of deficiency heat such as dry mouth and throat, hot hands and soles, etc. as the main symptoms.

Physical characteristics: thin body.

Common symptoms: hot palms and soles, dry mouth and throat, slightly dry nose, preference for cold drinks, dry stool, red tongue with little fluid, and weak pulse.

Psychological characteristics: impatient, extroverted, active and lively.

Tendency to disease: prone to fatigue, loss of semen, insomnia and other diseases; easily transformed into heat by pathogens.

Ability to adapt to the external environment: Can tolerate winter but not summer; cannot tolerate heat, heat and dryness.

Health principles

Tonify Yin and clear away heat, nourish the liver and kidneys. The key to those with Yin deficiency is to nourish Yin. Among the five internal organs, the liver stores blood and the kidneys store essence, and they are located in the lower part of the body. Therefore, nourishing the liver and kidneys is the key.

The general symptoms of Yin deficiency are not like other serious diseases and usually do not significantly affect life and work, so many young people are too lazy to spend time adjusting or treating them. Over time, the body owes more and more health debts.

According to TCM theory, if Yin is deficient, it should be supplemented. In the process of supplementation, the principle of nourishing Yin and suppressing Yang should be followed. "Suppressing" means calming the Yang fire. Especially those with weak constitutions should take supplements at the right time under the guidance of a doctor. People with Yin deficiency are most afraid of taking the wrong supplements. If they randomly take aphrodisiac foods, such as ginseng, deer antlers, etc., it will make the Yang fire too strong, and the body functions will be in a state of excessive excitement and activity, consuming body fluids, which will aggravate symptoms such as dry mouth and sore throat, hot hands and feet, and irritability and insomnia. Therefore, it is recommended that people with Yin deficiency must choose the right tonic herbs and pay attention to their diet in order to achieve the best effect of combining medicinal tonic and dietary therapy.

People with Yin deficiency should eat foods that are sweet, cool, moisturizing, and can promote the production of body fluids and nourish Yin. Eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, or foods rich in fiber and vitamins, protein-rich foods, avoid spicy and irritating foods, eat less fried, stir-fried, and hot foods, and also eat less foods high in fat and sugar. Specifically, suitable foods and fruits include wheat, japonica rice, millet, corn, buckwheat, black sesame, pork, duck meat, duck eggs, water chestnuts, soft-shelled turtle, turtle meat, white fungus, black fungus, cabbage, tomato, spinach, cucumber, bitter melon, loofah, seaweed, grapes, pears, kiwi, grapefruit, peach, watermelon, etc. You can often make jujube peel rice porridge, lily rice porridge, white fungus and red date soup, lily and lotus seed soup, etc. at home. These have the effect of nourishing yin, and people with yin deficiency can eat more of them.
