Seven Chinese medicines for treating stomach acid?

Gastric disease is one of the most common diseases in our lives. There are many reasons for gastric disease, such as improper diet or irregular diet, overeating can cause gastric disease. The treatment of gastric disease mainly relies on care. Western medicine treatment of gastric disease is only a temporary solution and not a cure. Most people choose to use traditional Chinese medicine to treat gastric disease. What are the seven traditional Chinese medicines for treating gastric acid?

TCM treatment of excessive gastric acid

Liver-stomach disharmony : Symptoms include heartburn, acid reflux, pain behind the sternum or in the epigastric area, which are often triggered by emotional factors. There is bloating in the epigastric area and extension to the flanks, sighing, frequent belching, and constipation. The tongue is pale red, the tongue coating is thin white, and the pulse is stringy. The treatment should be to soothe the liver and relieve depression, harmonize the stomach and reduce counterflow. The prescription should be Chaihu Shugan San combined with Xiangsu San with modifications: Bupleurum, White Peony Root, Cyperus rotundus, Chuanxiong, Su Geng, Tangerine Peel, Citrus Aurantium, Inula, Curcuma, Cuttlebone, Corydalis, and Prunus mume. Chinese patent medicines include Qizhi Weitong Granules and Weisu Granules. Heat stagnation in the liver and stomach: Symptoms include heartburn, acid reflux, pain behind the sternum or in the epigastric area, burning pain, dry and bitter mouth, irritability, noisy and uncomfortable bowel movements or constipation. The tongue is red, the coating is yellow, and the pulse is stringy or rapid. The treatment should be to clear the liver and release heat, harmonize the stomach and reduce counterflow. The prescription is Huagan Jian combined with Zuojin Wan with modifications: peony bark, green peel, tangerine peel, gardenia, white peony root, pinellia, poria, thunbergia thunbergii, coptis chinensis, evodia rutaecarpa, calcined corrugated paper (fried first), cuttlebone, and forsythia. The Chinese patent medicine includes Jiawei Zuojin Pills.

Qi and blood stasis: stabbing pain behind the sternum or in the epigastric area, occasional heartburn and acid reflux, abdominal distension, or vomiting blood and black stools, belching, thin body, and difficulty swallowing. The tongue is dark purple or has ecchymosis, and the pulse is sluggish or stringy. The treatment should be to regulate qi and activate blood circulation, harmonize the stomach and reduce counterflow. The prescription is Danshen Yin combined with Shixiao Powder with added ingredients: Danshen, Santalum album, Amomum villosum (added later), Pollen Typhae (wrapped and decocted), Ophiopogon japonicus (wrapped and decocted), Toosendan fruit, Corydalis yanhusuo, Curcuma aromatica, Angelica sinensis, Poria, Tangerine peel, Pinellia ternata, Panax notoginseng powder (taken with water). Chinese patent medicines include Xuefu Zhuyu Granules and Yuanhu Pain-Relieving Tablets. Mixed cold and heat: symptoms include abdominal distension and pain, heartburn, acid reflux, frequent belching, vomiting and diarrhea. Sometimes, there are symptoms of stomach heat such as bitter taste in the mouth, dry mouth, bad breath, burning sensation in the stomach, craving for cold food, dry stool, etc., as well as symptoms of spleen cold such as stomach discomfort, pain, and bloating after being afraid of cold, drinking cold drinks, or the stomach being exposed to cold. The tongue coating is greasy and white and yellow, and the pulse is moist and rapid, or deep and slow, or deep and stringy. The treatment should be based on the use of pungent ingredients to open up the stomach and bitter ingredients to descend, to harmonize the stomach and reduce the adverse effects. The prescription should be Banxia Xiexin Decoction with modifications: Pinellia, Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, dried ginger, ginseng, roasted liquorice, Evodia rutaecarpa, calcined Corrugated Iron Fructus (pre-boiled), and cuttlebone. Chinese patent medicines include Banxia Xiexin tablets (pills).

Stagnation of phlegm and qi: Symptoms include discomfort in the throat, as if there is something blocking it, making it difficult to swallow, or even sore throat, which is often aggravated by emotional distress, and sometimes there is heartburn, acid reflux, noisy discomfort, or itchy throat and cough, or phlegm and wheezing, or hoarseness, poor appetite, and uncomfortable bowel movements. The tongue is pale, the tongue coating is white or greasy, and the pulse is stringy and slippery. The treatment should be to relieve depression and resolve phlegm, harmonize the stomach and reduce counterflow. The prescription should be Banxia Houpu Decoction with modifications: ginger pinellia, magnolia bark, sophora japonica stem, tangerine peel, Poria, white peony root, Cyperus rotundus, Citrus aurantium, calcined Corrugated Iron Fructus (fried first), and Curcuma aromatica. Chinese patent medicines include Chenxiang Shunqi Pills and Muxiang Shunqi Pills. Qi reversal due to deficiency of the middle meridian : symptoms include acid reflux, vomiting of clear water, cold pain and distension in the stomach, loss of appetite, belching, fatigue, and loose stools. The tongue is pale, the tongue coating is thin white, and the pulse is thready and weak. The treatment should be to tonify the middle and strengthen the spleen, harmonize the stomach and reduce counterflow. The prescription is Xiangsha Liujunzi Decoction with modifications: Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, Tangerine peel, Pinellia ternata, Costus root, Amomum villosum (added later), Inula flower (wrapped and decocted), cinnamon twig, and roasted liquorice. Chinese patent medicines include Xiangsha Yangwei Pills and Xiangsha Liujun Tablets. Deficiency of stomach yin : Symptoms include noisy heartburn, dull pain behind the sternum or in the epigastric area, dry mouth and throat, thirst without desire to drink, fever in the five parts of the body, fatigue, or weight loss and dry stool. The tongue is red with little fluid, with little or no coating, and the pulse is thin or rapid. The treatment should be to nourish yin and benefit the stomach, harmonize the middle and reduce adverse effects. The prescription is Yiwei Decoction combined with Shaoyao Gancao Decoction with modifications: Adenophora Root, Rehmannia Glutinosa, Ophiopogon japonicus, Polygonatum odoratum, White Peony Root, Corydalis yanhusuo, Poria, Tangerine Peel, Pinellia Tuber, Calcined Corrugated Carrageenan Seed (fried first), Citron, and Licorice. Chinese patent medicines include Yinxuweitong Granules and Yangweishu Capsules.
