Many people don't know much about ethmoid sinusitis. It is an acute, purulent sinusitis that is very harmful to human health. When the disease is severe, it often causes fever, insomnia, constipation and other symptoms. In addition, it can also cause some local symptoms. Patients will have persistent nasal congestion, runny nose and other symptoms, and may even cause blood and odor in the nasal cavity. Symptoms of Ethmoid Sinusitis 1. Systemic symptoms may include loss of appetite, irritability, chills and fever, constipation, insomnia, and mental depression. 2. Local symptoms (1) Nasal symptoms Nasal congestion: Persistent nasal congestion on the affected side may be caused by swelling of the nasal mucosa or accumulation of nasal secretions in the nasal cavity; Runny nose: Nasal secretions are mucopurulent or purulent. In the case of anterior ethmoid sinus inflammation, the secretions are mostly blown out from the front, while in the case of posterior ethmoid sinus inflammation, the secretions are mostly inhaled into the pharynx and then spit out; Loss of smell, especially in the case of ethmoid and sphenoid sinus inflammation. The patient's nasal discharge is mixed with blood or he or she feels that the nasal discharge has a fishy odor. (2) Headache: Headache is generally mild, but it can take many forms. Sometimes it is swelling or slight pain in the inner canthus of the eye or deep in the root of the nose; sometimes it is a headache in the forehead. It often occurs periodically, especially in the anterior ethmoid sinusitis, which is similar to acute frontal sinusitis, but the degree is milder. Sometimes there is an occipital headache, similar to sphenoid sinusitis, which is mostly posterior ethmoid sinusitis. Sometimes there is pain behind the eyeball, which is aggravated by moving the eyeball or pressing the eyeball with fingers; sometimes the headache is limited to the temporal area. It is usually heavier in the morning and lighter in the afternoon. Ethmoid sinusitis treatment 1. General treatment: Pay attention to rest, drink plenty of water, and treat symptoms such as headaches symptomatically. 2. Penicillin antibiotics should be used first and in sufficient quantities for anti-inflammatory treatment. If allergy or drug resistance occurs, other broad-spectrum antibiotics should be used. 3. Local treatment Nasal treatment includes the use of nasal mucosal vasoconstrictors and antibiotic nasal drops, replacement surgery, etc. Physical therapies such as ultrasonic atomization, steam inhalation, and local hot compress can be used. 4. Surgical treatment is usually not recommended during the acute phase. It is used when sinus inflammation spreads outward and causes serious complications to adjacent organs. Surgical treatment can be used when there is no improvement after standardized acute treatment for more than one month or when the condition becomes chronic. The purpose is to improve sinus ventilation and drainage and promote the disappearance of sinus inflammation. Auxiliary surgeries include correction of high nasal septum deflection, nasal polypectomy, partial resection of the middle turbinate, etc. Sinus surgery is divided into: traditional radical sinus surgery and the currently widely used functional endoscopic sinus surgery. |
