What are the differences between liposarcoma and lipoma?

Although liposarcoma and lipoma sound only one letter different, they are actually very different. One is a benign tumor that does not require treatment, while the other is malignant and must be treated as soon as possible.

Lipoma is a benign tumor that grows slower than malignant tumors and rarely or never metastasizes. It mainly occurs under the skin, followed by the limbs. It is likely to occur wherever there is fat. It is difficult to distinguish it from normal tissue and has a relatively soft texture. But liposarcoma is a malignant soft tissue sarcoma. It is easily separated from normal tissue and grows very fast. It often occurs around the age of 50, and occurs most frequently in the thighs and buttocks.

Steps/Methods:

01

Currently, the best way to treat lipoma is surgery. If the tumor is relatively small, no treatment is generally required. Larger ones are best removed surgically. It should be removed as soon as possible to avoid metastasis or transformation into a malignant tumor. It will be difficult to clean it up then.

02

For lipoma, you can consider surgical treatment. It is not very expensive for one lipoma, about 200 yuan. If there are many lipomas, the cost may be high. A larger one may cost 200-300 yuan. The reason for considering surgical treatment is that the recovery effect is better.

03

For liposarcoma, if it is relatively large, it must be surgically removed to prevent it from continuing to grow, or spreading too much to the surrounding area, or metastasizing to other parts. After surgical removal, in order to prevent recurrence and clean it out, we still have to perform chemotherapy, because for the more malignant types, chemotherapy can be performed after surgery to prevent metastasis.

Note:

If lipoma is treated with surgical excision and laser therapy, the treatment effect is not very stable, the side effects are relatively large, and it is easy to relapse. Lipoma is related to diet, and the liver plays a role in metabolism. Avoid spicy food, greasy food, drinking alcohol, etc.
