How to treat otitis media

Ears are very important for normal people because we usually rely on ears to distinguish sounds. Moreover, it is with ears that we can listen to the beauty of this world, so generally speaking, people are very protective of their ears. But many times, taking good care of your ears is not enough. Sometimes the ears get sick, a common one being otitis media. So how do you treat otitis media? This is very confusing for most people.

Otitis media is a common ear disease in our human body. People of all ages can suffer from otitis media, especially children. Otitis media is most common in children, and the specific reasons for this are still unclear. Otitis media is very painful for children and often affects their physical health. So, let’s talk in detail about the treatment of otitis media.

Otitis media is an inflammatory disease involving all or part of the structure of the middle ear (including the Eustachian tube, tympanic cavity, tympanic sinus and mastoid air cells), and is more common in children. It can be divided into two categories: non-purulent and purulent. Non-suppurative cases include secretory otitis media, barotraumatic otitis media, etc., while suppurative cases can be divided into acute and chronic types. Specific inflammation is very rare, such as tuberculous otitis media.

Treatment:

Actively treat focal diseases of the upper respiratory tract, such as chronic sinusitis and chronic tonsillitis. Drug treatment: The simple type is mainly treated with local medication: antibiotic aqueous solution or a mixture of antibiotics and steroid hormones can be used, such as 0.25% chloramphenicol solution, chloramphenicol cortisone solution, ofloxacin ear drops, etc. Precautions for local medication: ① Before using the medicine, clean the pus in the external auditory canal and middle ear cavity. You can use 3% hydrogen peroxide or boric acid water for cleaning, then wipe it clean with a cotton swab or use an aspirator to absorb the pus before dripping the medicine. ② When the amount of pus is large, use water; when the amount is small, use boric acid alcohol.

Ear drop method: The patient sits or lies down with the affected ear facing upwards. Gently pull the auricle backward and upward, and drip 3 to 4 drops of medicine into the external auditory canal. Then press the tragus lightly with your fingers several times to encourage the medicine to flow into the middle ear through the perforation of the eardrum. You can change your position after a few minutes. Note that the ear drops should be as close to body temperature as possible to avoid causing dizziness.

Large perforation of the eardrum affects hearing. Tympanoplasty or tympanoplasty can be performed about 2 months after dry ear. For ulcerative otitis media with unobstructed drainage, local medication is the main treatment, but regular check-ups should be noted. Patients with poor drainage or suspected complications, as well as cholesteatoma otitis media, should undergo modified radical mastoidectomy or radical mastoidectomy as soon as possible to completely remove the lesions and prevent complications.

There are many treatments for otitis media, and the methods introduced above are only a small part of the many treatments for otitis media. However, it is worth affirming that the above-mentioned methods are still very effective in treating otitis media, so our patients with otitis media might as well try these methods for treatment.
