What is the reason for children to vomit repeatedly?

Because the spleen and stomach functions of infants and young children are weak, their intestinal peristalsis is slow, and their stomach, esophagus and other parts are not yet fully developed. Of course, parents' improper feeding methods, especially the failure to add complementary foods reasonably according to the baby's physical development characteristics, are likely to affect the baby's gastrointestinal health, and then cause vomiting and other adverse conditions. So what are the reasons for children's repeated vomiting? How should parents solve this problem?

Vomiting in children is a common symptom in children, in which milk and food are spit out from the mouth. It can be seen in a variety of diseases at different ages. Vomiting is caused by retrograde peristalsis of the esophagus, stomach or intestines, accompanied by strong spasmodic contractions of the abdominal muscles, which force the contents of the esophagus or stomach to pour out of the mouth and nasal cavity. Severe vomiting may even cause the child to suffer from respiratory arrest and suffocation. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that food stagnation hurts the stomach, spleen and stomach deficiency and cold, insufficient stomach yin, and external evil invading the stomach can all lead to stomach disharmony and qi reflux, which can cause spleen and stomach dysfunction and vomiting.

Vomiting can be a symptom that exists alone. Long-term and repeated vomiting in children can lead to insufficient qi and blood, and malnutrition. However, vomiting is often accompanied by other symptoms, which vary with the primary disease. It should be emphasized that vomiting involves a wide range of diseases. Its symptoms can occur in various internal and surgical diseases. It is a symptom that parents need to pay special attention to at all times. If it is serious, go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

Common causes of vomiting in children

1. Organic obstruction of the digestive tract: The contents of the esophagus, stomach or intestine are chewed and forced to flow backwards, resulting in vomiting. For example, congenital malformations of the digestive tract (occlusion or stenosis in different parts): older children are more likely to suffer from acquired intestinal torsion, intussusception, and intestinal obstruction (such as common ascaris obstruction); vomiting may also be accompanied by other symptoms of digestive tract obstruction (such as abdominal distension, bloody stools, and no bowel movements).

2. Digestive tract infectious diseases: Due to inflammation, the stomach and intestines may be irritated and reflex vomiting may occur. It is often accompanied by abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal distension (such as enteritis, gastritis, and appendicitis).

3. Abnormal digestive tract function: It is a common cause of vomiting. If it occurs in various systemic infections and metabolic disorders, it is often accompanied by other symptoms of infection and poisoning such as fever, loss of appetite, nausea, and abdominal distension.

4. Diseases of the cranial nervous system: Symptoms of intracranial hypertension, meningeal irritation or intracranial space-occupying lesions due to different causes can cause central projectile vomiting. Vomiting is usually not accompanied by nausea, but by other neurological symptoms {such as headache, drowsiness, coma, convulsions).

5. Various poisonings: including local irritation of the gastrointestinal tract by poisons and vomiting caused by the effects of poisons on the central nervous system.
