What is cervical spondylosis?

Nowadays, the incidence of cervical spondylosis in daily life is very high. We often hear people around us complain about the distress caused by cervical spondylosis. Cervical spondylosis is not just a simple neck pain. Cervical spondylosis can also cause other diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In order to better understand cervical spondylosis and actively treat it, let’s take a look at what cervical spondylosis is.

1. Cervical spondylosis is the lightest type of cervical spondylosis, and is also the most common and easiest to diagnose. The main symptoms are pain in the head, neck and shoulders accompanied by tenderness, recurrent stiff neck, tight and stiff neck, and easy neck fatigue.

2. The pain symptoms of radiculopathy cervical spondylosis radiate from the neck to the distal wrist, also known as "descending cervical spondylosis." The incidence rate is the highest, and the main symptoms are: pain radiating to the upper arm, forearm and fingers, numbness, allergy and strange feeling in the fingers; finger movements are not smooth; tilting the head, coughing and sneezing can aggravate the pain; pain in the shoulder blade, upper arm and front chest area.

3. Spinal cervical spondylotic myelopathy mostly occurs after middle age, with gradual onset of sensory disturbances in the hands and feet and muscle weakness, as well as sudden falls or "electric shock-like reactions" throughout the body. In the early stage, it presents as unilateral or bilateral lower limb numbness, which later develops into muscle weakness, difficulty walking, bowel and bladder dysfunction or various types of paralysis.

4. Arterial cervical spondylosis is a series of symptoms caused by dysfunction of the vertebral artery due to external compression or stimulation, and it is sudden. It manifests as narrowing of the intervertebral space, cervical instability or bone hyperplasia of the cervical joints, hand compression or irritation, temporary obstruction of arterial blood flow, blockage or infarction due to spasm.

5. Sympathetic nervous system type: manifested by dizziness, hemicrania, occipital pain, ptosis, blurred vision, dilated or constricted pupils, and even blindness.

6. Other types: relatively rare. Bird-beak-like hyperplasia in front of the cervical vertebrae compresses the esophagus and causes difficulty in swallowing.

Through the above introduction, everyone has a better understanding of what cervical spondylosis is, what types it includes and what symptoms it manifests. I hope that after understanding this, friends can do their best to prepare for the prevention and treatment of this disease.
