How to reduce swelling after surgery

How to reduce swelling after surgery

After surgery, swelling of the surgical area is common. When edema occurs after surgery, it must be relieved through certain methods. The most common method is drug treatment. Certain drugs are used to reduce inflammation and eliminate edema. People can also use some physical therapy methods, such as cold compresses, using cotton swabs dipped in salt water to reduce swelling, etc.

How to reduce swelling after surgery

1. Physical therapy

1. Cold compress method: Wrap ice cubes with an ice bag or towel and apply ice for 3-5 minutes. This can constrict blood vessels and help reduce eye swelling. It is suitable for those who have just completed eye plastic surgery. 2. Hot compress: Hot compress can promote blood circulation and help reduce swelling after surgery. However, cold compress should be applied right after surgery. Generally, hot compress can be used to reduce swelling after 24 hours. 3. Folk methods of reducing swelling: applying boiled eggs, red tea bags, potato chips, etc. The principle is the same as hot and cold therapy. (When applying eye compresses, be sure to pay attention to the cleanliness of the dressing to ensure eye hygiene.) Also, don't always touch your eyes with your hands, because the bacteria on your hands can infect the eyes through touch. 4. Dip a cotton swab in diluted saline to relieve swelling of the skin around the eyes.

2. Exercise therapy

Pay attention to strengthening the movement of the eye muscles, which can promote blood circulation in the eye muscles and surrounding tissues, reduce and gradually eliminate postoperative swelling after eye plastic surgery, and allow eye congestion to be absorbed as soon as possible. When you go to sleep, try to prop up the pillow and raise your head so that the swelling in your eyes can naturally subside during your sleep.

3. Drug therapy

1. Anti-inflammatory drugs: Most eye plastic surgeries can be cured without taking medication after the operation, but it is easier to get better if you take anti-inflammatory drugs for about 1-2 days. 2. Antibiotics: To prevent bacterial invasion, you can apply some antibiotic eye ointment on the eyes to prevent infection. Within a month, your eyes will be completely deswollen and return to normal. 3. Analgesics: A small amount of analgesics can not only relieve postoperative pain, but also help reduce swelling after surgery.
