Sudden blockage in one ear

Sudden blockage in one ear

If one ear suddenly feels blocked, you should pay attention to it. The cause of this phenomenon may be acute otitis media. Because this symptom is relatively sudden, it may be related to the onset of acute otitis media. Therefore, you should go to the hospital for examination and treat it with certain medications. You should also emphasize maintenance and provide appropriate care in your daily life.

What is the best way to treat otitis media?

This requires targeted treatment based on the different causes of otitis media in children. First of all, we must prevent otitis media caused by colds, keep the nasal cavity unobstructed, prevent sewage from entering the ears, and reduce the possibility of secondary infection. Treatments for otitis media include:

1. Catarrhal otitis media (secretory otitis media):

In the initial stage, drug treatment can be tried: 1% ephedrine nasal drops, and appropriate administration of antihistamines and corticosteroids. In addition to systemic application of antibacterial and antiviral drugs, local nasal drops are particularly important in treatment. Commonly used nasal drops are 1% ephedrine solution or furacillin ephedrine solution nasal drops. If there is no effect, tympanic membrane puncture should be performed to drain the accumulated fluid; if the condition is serious, hyaluronidase or cortisone acetate can be injected at the same time. If the condition recurs, the tympanic membrane can be cut open or punctured with a thick needle and a small drainage tube can be inserted. The tube can be left in place for the time being and observed over a long period of time. The tube often falls out on its own and the perforation heals on its own.

2. Acute suppurative otitis media:

Systemic treatment is required, including analgesia, sedation, and adequate doses of antibiotics. When the tympanic membrane is bulging, incision and drainage are performed. If perforation has occurred and the perforation is too small, the incision should be enlarged to facilitate drainage. The secretions were collected for bacterial culture and drug sensitivity testing. Clear the ear canal pus at any time. You can use hydrogen peroxide to clean it, or use ear drops or eye drops containing antibiotics.

Ear drop method: The child sits or lies down with the affected ear facing upwards. Gently pull the auricle backward and upward, and drip 3-4 drops of medicine into the external auditory canal. Then press the tragus lightly with your fingers several times to encourage the medicine to flow into the middle ear through the perforation of the eardrum. You can change your position after a few minutes. Note that the ear drops should be as close to body temperature as possible to avoid causing dizziness.

When treating acute suppurative otitis media in children, more attention should be paid to the timely discharge of pus in the tympanic cavity to prevent damage to the ossicular chain. Therefore, the treatment for acute suppurative otitis media in children is to rationally use antibiotics and tympanotomy to ensure smooth drainage, and the latter is more important for the treatment of otitis media. Observe the condition closely. If pus discharge persists, pay attention to complications of papillitis. If there are symptoms of meningeal irritation, intracranial and extracranial complications should be excluded and, if found, surgical treatment should be performed.

3. Chronic suppurative otitis media:

(1) The simple type is mainly based on local medication: antibiotic aqueous solution or a mixture of antibiotics and steroid hormones can be used, such as 0.25% chloramphenicol solution, chloramphenicol cortisone solution, ofloxacin ear drops, etc. Powders such as iodine boric acid powder, chloramphenicol boric acid powder, etc. If dry ear has not recurred for more than 3 months, tympanoplasty can be considered to repair the eardrum and improve hearing.
