Differentiation between neonatal acne and eczema

Differentiation between neonatal acne and eczema

Neonatal acne is a skin disease related to body hormones. There is not much medical knowledge about its cause. It is only speculated to be related to genetic factors and it mostly occurs in males. Eczema is a common skin disease in babies after they are born. The specific causes are improper diet and seasonal changes. Because neonatal acne and eczema both manifest as red rashes on the skin, which are difficult to distinguish, what are the specific differences between neonatal acne and eczema?

1. The main characteristics of neonatal acne

Neonatal acne mostly occurs in children shortly after birth or under 2 years old. The location of occurrence is similar to that of young people, also on the forehead. On the chin, cheeks and other parts of the body, skin damage also occurs in various forms such as red papules, whiteheads and blackheads, small nodules and pustules. A few children may also develop nodules and cysts similar to juvenile acne.

1. Mild illness: Children with mild illness generally do not need treatment and will recover after a few weeks. Parents just need to take good care of their children.

2. Serious condition: If the child's condition is more serious, parents need to handle it with caution and avoid giving the baby corticosteroid drugs such as Pilinda. If it is used frequently on babies, it is very likely to cause contraction of the baby's skin and produce hair follicle inflammation. Parents need to take their babies to see a doctor as soon as possible and give their babies anti-inflammatory and anti-infection treatment under the doctor's guidance.

2. The main characteristics of eczema in children

Eczema is a skin rash that is most common in young children between two months and two years old. Eczema usually appears on the forehead, cheeks, etc. of young children, and sometimes extends to the arms, legs, chest or other parts of the body. The rash may appear as dry, thickened, scaly skin, or it may be some mild redness, swelling, blisters, or oozing fluid that may become infected if scratched.
