What is Echinops oleifera ?

Many people are familiar with traditional Chinese medicine such as Schizonepeta tenuifolia, but they do not have enough understanding of it, so various problems will arise when using Schizonepeta tenuifolia.

Chenopodium album, also known as red blue, heavenly grass, stinky grass, hookworm grass, lice grass, etc., is a plant of the genus Chenopodiaceae of the Chenopodiaceae family. The whole plant is used as medicine. This species is a poisonous plant included in the Chinese Plant Atlas Database, and its toxicity lies in its volatile oil. The fruit contains the most toxicity, so it is more toxic, followed by the leaves, and the stems are the weakest. The usual dosage is 10-30 ml. It can dispel wind and dampness, kill insects and relieve itching. It is used for ascariasis, hookworm disease, pinworm disease, and external use to treat skin eczema and itching, and kill maggots.

The dried stems and branches of the herbaceous plant with fruit clusters. The lower part of the stem is cylindrical, thick and smooth. The upper part is square with longitudinal grooves and hairy. Most of the lower leaves have fallen off, leaving only the linear-lanceolate bracts at the stem tip. The fruit clusters are in bunches, growing in branch axils and stem tips. They fall off when touched and are light green or yellow-green in color. Remove the persistent calyx and you will find a brown-black fruit inside. It has a strong and special aroma and tastes spicy and slightly bitter. It is produced in Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Guizhou and other places.

The efficacy and function of wormwood

Like other Chinese medicines, the effects of Schizonepeta tenuifolia are not single, and it can treat many diseases, so it is necessary to fully understand its effects.

Schizonepeta tenuifolia has the functions of dispelling wind, killing insects, regulating menstruation and relieving pain. Treat skin rheumatism, hookworms, roundworms, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, skin eczema, snake and insect bites.

① "Essentials of Raw Medicinal Herbs" says: It can dispel wind and relieve pain. It is suitable for washing with boiled water. It is better than using clam water to wash after the measles has fallen off.

② "Records of Medicinal Herbs in Lingnan": It can eliminate wind-heat, kill insects, strengthen the stomach and relieve pain. Boil the water to wash the skin for scabies.

③ "Guizhou Folk Prescriptions and Medicines Collection": can expel intestinal parasites. Used externally to treat snake and insect bites.

④ "Jiangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine": Suitable for hookworm disease, indigestion, gastrointestinal distension, amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea. (Effects and functions of wormwood)

Dosage and Usage of Herba Echinops

Some friends think that Chinese medicine has few side effects, so they don’t need to be so particular about its use. This view is completely wrong. Take the example of Schizonepeta tenuifolia to talk about its usage.

For internal use: decoct in water, 1-2 qian (5-8 qian for fresh). Or it can be made into pills or powders. For external use: decoct in water for washing or mash for application.

Choice:

① For the treatment of hookworms, roundworms and pinworms: dry the leaves, stems and seeds of Schizonepeta tenuifolia in the shade, grind into powder, add sugar and rice paste to make pills as big as mung beans, take one qian each time with boiled water, once in the morning and evening. (Fujian Folk Herbs)

②For the treatment of hookworm, roundworm and red worm diseases: take 1 to 2 qian of whole herb of Schizonepeta tenuifolia and decoct it in water.

③Treat head lice: Mash the Chinese schizonepeta and add tea oil to apply.

④Treatment of rectal prolapse and uterine prolapse: 50 cents of fresh herb of Schizonepeta tenuifolia. Decoction in water and take twice a day. (②The following prescriptions are from Hunan Pharmacopoeia)

⑤Treat rheumatic joint pain: 50 cents of fresh root of Schizonepeta tenuifolia. Stew in water and drink.

⑥Treat eczema: Take appropriate amount of fresh whole herb of Schizonepeta tenuifolia. Boil in water and wash the affected area.

⑦Treat traumatic bleeding: dried leaves of Schizonepeta tenuifolia. Grind into a bundle and apply to the affected area.
