Nose and ear pain

Blowing the nose is a common action in people's lives, but many people experience discomfort symptoms when blowing their nose, such as bleeding, ringing in the ears, ear pain, etc. Ear pain when blowing your nose may be related to improper way of blowing your nose, or it may be related to some disease, such as otitis media. So how can we solve it? The following article will give you a detailed introduction.

Causes of ear pain from blowing your nose

The ear receives external sound stimulation and produces the sensation of hearing sound in the ear, which is a normal hearing function. However, if there is no sound source in the outside world, but you subjectively feel that there are various sounds, this is tinnitus.

The mechanism of tinnitus is relatively complex and can occur in many situations. In general, there are the following types: The first is physiological tinnitus. Inside the body, blood vessel pulsation, blood flow, muscle contraction, joint movement, breathing movement, etc. all produce faint sounds, which can be felt by those closer to the ears.

Normally, due to the louder noises from the outside world, this faint sound is masked and cannot be felt. But if you walk into a soundproof room or hear it late at night in the quiet, you may sometimes feel a faint sound in your ears. This is physiological tinnitus.

The second type is conductive tinnitus. The cause of this type of tinnitus is an obstruction in the conduction part of the auditory system, such as swelling, blockage of the external auditory canal, perforation, invagination of the tympanic membrane, inflammation of the middle ear, adhesion, and sclerosis. Sound transmission disorders reduce the ability to hear external sounds and weaken their effect of masking sounds occurring inside the body, making them perceptible and resulting in tinnitus.

Furthermore, the sound transmitted into the ear through bone conduction is blocked due to conduction barriers, which increases the sensation of sound in the ear, making it a mainly low-frequency, whistling sound like the wind. We can try it ourselves. Cover our ears with one hand and you will feel a buzzing sound in the ears. This is typical conductive tinnitus.

After understanding why ears tinnitus occurs when blowing nose, if you have such a situation yourself, you should also pay attention to timely treatment. There are many ways to improve ear tinnitus caused by blowing nose. If the tinnitus is more severe, you can also choose some medicines to reduce heat first, which is also very effective in relieving tinnitus.

Solution to nose and ear pain

The ear pain in this case is mainly because the eardrum is "sucked" in, causing pain and pulling. So we recommend improving pain from the following aspects:

1. The scientific way to blow your nose is to do it on one side, not on both sides at the same time.

Specifically, you can press one nostril with your fingers, blow out with a little force, and the snot in the opposite nostril can be blown out. After blowing one side, move on to the other side.

2. When blowing your nose, try to be gentle and not too hard.

3. Take symptomatic cold medicine in moderation to reduce runny nose.

4. Drink more water and rest more to recover as soon as possible.

5. When your nose doesn't have so much mucus, do this exercise a few times: first take a breath, then pinch your nose, puff up your cheeks, close your mouth, and exhale through the pinched nostrils. This can open the Eustachian tube, and you can feel that the symptoms of ear congestion and ear pain are improved.

Do it less when there is too much mucus, for fear of introducing infection into the ears.

Go to the ENT department of the hospital to see if there are problems such as retracted eardrum and otitis media.
