How to perform Chinese medicine enema

Chinese medicine enema is also a common treatment method. It is very effective in treating constipation, especially for patients with more severe constipation. It can be treated with Chinese medicine enema. Of course, when performing Chinese medicine enema treatment, you should also understand some precautions, that is, such treatment should not be performed frequently to avoid adverse stimulation or impact on the patient's intestinal wall. Let us briefly understand how to perform Chinese medicine enema.

How to perform Chinese medicine enema

1. Pour the warm enema Chinese medicine into the enema bag. Note that the stop valve of the enema bag should be adjusted to the closed position to prevent the medicine from flowing out.

2. After the patient has cleaned his anus, he should lie on his side on the bed or sofa. It is best to put a piece of paper towel or cloth curtain under the body to facilitate handling when the medicine spills.

3. Apply lubricating liquid on the catheter head of the enema bag, open the stop valve, let the liquid flow down to expel the air in the enema tube, similar to how a doctor expel the liquid from the needle when giving an injection, and then close the stop valve.

4. Insert it into the anus about 10 cm, not too deep, just enough to prevent it from overflowing.

5. Open the stop valve and you should see the liquid in the medicine bag flowing downwards. When the liquid stops flowing or runs out, pull out the enema tube.

6. Lie in bed for about half an hour before getting up and moving around to prevent the medicine from leaking out. Alternatively, you can do an enema before going to bed at night and get up the next morning to expel the medicine.

Precautions

1. Strictly follow aseptic operation. The continuous use of the infusion tube for enema should be within 7 days. It is best to change it each time. After one enema, the catheter (or small anal tube) can be soaked in chlorine-containing disinfectant for 30 minutes, then cleaned and dried for later use, or boiled for 30 minutes and dried for later use.

2. Choice of enema time. It should be done before going to bed, after emptying the bowels and bladder, and with the intestines retained for more than 4 hours. Once a day is appropriate, and a few patients can take it twice a day.

3. Enema fluid temperature. The temperature of the enema solution should be between 38 and 40 degrees. It needs to be heated in winter. The patient should test it with the heel of his palm to make sure it is not hot to avoid the cold stimulating intestinal peristalsis and affecting the retention time of the drug.
