Black spots on teeth

Black spots on teeth

There are black things on the teeth, which are generally pigmentation. For example, frequent smoking and drinking of tea may cause such pigment residues. Another type is caries, which is what we usually call tooth decay. If it is caries, it should be repaired in time. If it is melanin deposition, these pigments can be removed through whitening methods. Let us learn about this aspect.

Black spots on teeth

There are usually two possibilities for the appearance of small black spots. One is pigmentation, such as smoke stains, tea stains, coffee stains, etc., which are difficult to brush off with teeth and can be removed by teeth cleaning. The other is that the teeth have deep or shallow caries (which we often call cavities). From the outside, it appears as a black spot, usually located in the pits and fissures (the dot-shaped or line-shaped depressions on the tooth surface, which have been mentioned before when talking about the black lines on the molars).

Tooth decay should be repaired sooner or later

If you ignore the small black spots on your teeth once you've confirmed that you have caries, they will grow bigger over time, usually within 1-2 years, and will corrode the entire tooth. Therefore, once it is confirmed that the small black spots on the teeth are caries, they should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent the development of the lesions. If it is allowed to continue to develop, it will become a noticeable cavity. At this time, the patient will be sensitive to hot, cold, sour, sweet and other foods. When the damage further reaches the dental pulp (that is, the "tooth nerve" in common people's words, which usually takes 3 to 4 years), it will cause unbearable pain, seriously affecting daily life.

Once caries develops into deep caries or residual roots and crowns, even root canal treatment cannot save your teeth, and your teeth face the possibility of being extracted at any time. Once a tooth is extracted, it needs to be replaced with a denture. There are currently three types of dentures, namely removable dentures, fixed dentures (porcelain teeth) and implants.
