What to do if you have a fever of 39 degrees repeatedly

Fever and colds are the most common diseases for each of us. Due to the effectiveness of the human immune system and detoxification system, people sometimes catch colds and fevers. It is normal to have a fever occasionally, just see a doctor and bring it down. However, if you encounter a repeated fever of 39 degrees, you should pay attention. Both adults and babies should seek medical attention immediately. Today I will share with you what we as parents should do if our baby has a repeated fever of 39 degrees?

Step 1: Correct understanding is the key

When a baby's fever reaches 39 degrees, it is the dividing line between moderate and high fever, so it needs to be handled with great care. If the baby's fever of 39 degrees continues for too long or the baby's temperature tends to rise again, you should seek medical attention in time. Otherwise, when the baby's fever exceeds 39 degrees, it may cause damage to the body.

Step 2: Physical cooling can be used

Drink more warm water, vegetable juice and fruit juice

Let your baby drink more water and replenish body fluids. This is the most basic method of reducing fever. It is very effective and practical and suitable for all babies with fever. Do not give your baby cold water, because fever is often accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms and cough, and drinking cold water will aggravate these accompanying symptoms. Give your baby warm water.

Ice

Place ice packs on your forehead, both sides of your neck, or under your armpits and bilateral groin areas. To make a homemade ice pack, put crushed ice into a plastic bag, add an appropriate amount of cold water, squeeze out the air, and tie the bag. Or you can let your baby sleep with an ice pillow, which can help the baby dissipate local heat and reduce fever. But be sure to wrap a layer of cloth around the ice bag to prevent local frostbite on the baby's skin.

Note: Generally, ice compresses and ice pillows are only suitable for older babies. For babies under 6 months old, you can use fever-reducing patches on the market to relieve the discomfort caused by high fever.

Low temperature chamber method

Place the sick child in an environment with a room temperature of about 24℃ to allow the body temperature to slowly drop. In order to allow the skin to come into contact with the outside air and help cool down, people need to wear less clothes. If conditions permit, use air conditioning to lower the room temperature. This method is suitable for babies under 1 month old, especially in summer. Just open the baby's clothes and put him in a cool place, his body temperature will slowly drop. If your baby has chills and shivering when having a fever, you should not use the low-temperature chamber method.

Warm water bath

Wipe the whole body with a warm towel. This is a great way to cool down any baby who has a fever. The water temperature should be between 32 and 34 oC, and each wiping time should be more than 10 minutes. The key areas to wipe are the skin folds, such as the neck, armpits, elbows, groin, etc.

Step 3: Physical cooling needs to be supplemented with medication

When the baby has a fever of 39 degrees, parents should use physical cooling methods and also supplement with medication.

The best choice of antipyretic medicine for babies is antipyretic suppositories. This suppository is inserted through the anus and is mainly absorbed by the rectum, so its effect is relatively fast. However, it should be noted that the use of antipyretic suppositories has a strong antipyretic effect and can easily lead to excessive fever reduction, causing a sharp drop in body temperature. In addition, repeated stimulation of the anus by the drug can easily cause diarrhea in babies. However, it is recommended to use the medication under the advice of a doctor.
