The dangers of moderate anemia in children

Anemia is a very serious disease. The chance of occurrence is quite high for both adults and children. What harm does moderate anemia do to children? Anemia in children will generally affect his development in all aspects, so it must be taken seriously. It also has a certain impact on intelligence. At the same time, their mood will be very bad, which will have a serious impact on their personality in making friends in the future. Timely treatment is required.

Anemia in children is a common disease. Some parents are accustomed to it and think it is no big deal. They do not treat it in time or have regular checkups. In fact, the consequences are very serious, mainly as follows:

The harm of anemia to children involves multiple systems throughout the body. Such as the nervous system, can cause irreversible damage to intelligence. The digestive system affects appetite and digestion and absorption. The less you eat, the more anemic you become, and the more anemic you become, the less you want to eat, which is a vicious cycle. There are also low immunity, developmental delays, etc. I'm not trying to scare you. This is already a consensus in the medical community at home and abroad.

In addition to the common iron deficiency anemia, the causes of anemia also include megaloblastic anemia, aplastic anemia, malignant tumors, chronic intestinal blood loss, hemolytic anemia, etc. Never assume that all anemia is nutritional iron deficiency anemia. Routine blood tests alone can only diagnose anemia, but the cause is unclear. Since it is inconvenient to draw blood from children, they are usually treated as iron deficiency anemia first, with iron supplementation and then follow-up to check the effect. After one month of treatment, the hemoglobin value should increase by 10 to 20 g/L or more. Therefore, children with anemia, especially those with moderate or severe anemia, must have regular checkups. If the treatment is not effective, further examinations are required to identify the cause and provide timely treatment. Currently, many places are promoting simultaneous testing of blood routine and ferritin to assist in the diagnosis of the cause of the disease.

At present, under the advice of many medical experts, the country has provided free routine blood tests for children at 6 months, 1.5 years and 2.5 years old for health check-ups, in order to detect and treat them early. Parents should also pay attention to it and follow the doctor's advice.

For children with mild to moderate anemia, Hb should be checked again 2 to 4 weeks after iron supplementation, and the compliance of taking iron supplements should be understood and the efficacy should be observed. Children with severe anemia or mild to moderate anemia who do not improve or whose condition progressively worsens after one month of regular iron treatment should be promptly examined and treated.
