The child fell and got a bump on his forehead

Children are very likely to fall when they are learning to walk. If they fall on the forehead, parents will usually immediately rub the injured area for the child. However, this approach is not scientific. If you rub the injured area hard, the child will be more painful, and in severe cases it may cause secondary injuries to the child. Therefore, parents should master the correct handling methods. So, what should you do if your child falls and gets a bump on his forehead?

1. Don’t rub your head with your hands

When a baby falls and has a swollen forehead, the parents' first reaction is to rub the affected area vigorously, hoping to reduce the swelling. In fact, this is the wrong way to deal with it. It is best not to rub or massage the head hard if it hits the head. The more you rub, the more likely it is to cause a blister, which will increase swelling and subcutaneous bleeding, and will only make the child more painful.

2. Early cold compress analgesia

If the baby gets a bump on the head, local cold compress should be applied as soon as possible after the injury to facilitate vasoconstriction, reduce subcutaneous bleeding, reduce the stimulation and compression of metabolic products on nerve endings, and play a role in reducing swelling and relieving pain. Ice compresses can be applied for fifteen minutes every two hours until the swelling stops increasing. You can use an ice bag or ice cubes wrapped in a towel to apply ice to the painful area. If there are no ice cubes, you can also soak a towel in cold water and apply it to the painful area.

3. Apply heat to dissipate blood stasis after 24 hours

24 hours after the injury, when the internal bleeding has completely stopped, you can use hot compress instead. Apply a hot towel to the painful area for 15-20 minutes. This can accelerate local blood circulation, which is beneficial for reducing swelling and relieving pain, tissue repair, and the absorption of metabolic products and blood stasis.

4. Cooked eggs reduce swelling after 24 hours

The baby fell and got a bump on his forehead. 24 hours later, parents can peel a boiled egg while it is still hot, wrap it with clean gauze, and gently rub circles on the swollen area for 4-5 minutes. This can promote the dissipation of local blood stasis and help reduce swelling and remove blood stasis. Be careful not to let the eggs be too hot to avoid burning the skin.

5. Apply safflower oil or Yunnan Baiyao tincture to reduce swelling

If there are no symptoms such as mental abnormalities, fever, vomiting, etc., safflower oil or Yunnan Baiyao tincture can be used to apply and wipe the swelling.
