What should I do if the corners of my eyes open differently?

What should I do if the corners of my eyes open differently?

Many people will open the canthus directly when doing double eyelid surgery. There will be some swelling at the beginning of the surgery, and the two sides may be different at this time, but it will be much better after the swelling subsides. Sometimes excessive eye fatigue can also cause asymmetry on the two sides. Pay more attention to eye hygiene, pay attention to rest, ensure adequate sleep, etc., and everything will be much better.

Target Group

1. Patients with congenital microphthalmia.

2. People who have small eyes and want to correct them through surgery.

3. However, people with congenital amblyopia, acute or chronic infections in the inner or outer eye or around the eye that have not been controlled or healed on their own need to inform the doctor and decide whether surgery can be performed based on the specific situation.

4. In addition, people with infections inside or outside the eyes need to be cured before undergoing surgery.

5. People with protruding or sunken eyeballs or retracted eyelids, or those with high expectations for surgery, need to be cautious.

Taboo group

1. People who are allergic to local anesthetics or have resistance to anesthetics are also contraindications for canthoplasty and should inform the surgeon of the procedure.

2. People with infectious diseases inside or outside the eyes are contraindicated for canthoplasty.

3. People with severe liver, kidney, heart, or brain diseases, pregnant women, and patients with severe blood diseases should not undergo canthoplasty.

4. It is best for women not to undergo canthoplasty during menstruation.

5. People with mental illness, psychological disorders or those who have excessively high or unrealistic demands should not undergo canthoplasty surgery.

6. People with obvious scarring should not undergo canthoplasty surgery.

7. Patients with skin inflammation lesions at the surgical site should not undergo canthoplasty surgery.

Precautions

Preoperative considerations

1. Make sure you are in good health before surgery, without any inflammation or other infectious diseases.

2. Stop taking aspirin-containing drugs two weeks before surgery to avoid affecting postoperative recovery.

3. Women who undergo canthoplasty surgery should avoid the menstrual period.

4. Men who are going to undergo canthoplasty surgery should quit smoking one week in advance.

5. Do not wear makeup before the operation.

6. Patients with hypertension and diabetes should communicate well with their doctors before surgery.

Postoperative precautions

1. Try to avoid getting the surgical area wet within 7 days after surgery;

2. Ensure the surgical site is clean to prevent infection. If there is blood scab or secretion on the wound, wipe it with sterile saline.

3. After the operation, you can apply pressure to the local wound or use an ice pack to cool it, but the pressure should not be too high to avoid damaging the eyes. If bleeding or severe hematoma occurs after surgery, you should go to the hospital for follow-up in time;

4. You should rest in a quiet and comfortable environment after the operation. Do not watch TV or read newspapers within 2 weeks after surgery. It is best to rest in bed in a semi-recumbent position (with a high pillow) to avoid excessive eye fatigue or a low head position that may aggravate wound swelling.

5. There will be some pain in the wound on the day of operation, but it will gradually ease over time. Patients should not rush to take painkillers, as aspirin-like drugs can aggravate wound bleeding;

6. Avoid eating irritating foods such as peppers;

7. Strictly follow the doctor’s instructions on taking medication and going for follow-up visits.

Due to racial differences, most Oriental peoples have epicanthus growing at the inner corners of their eyes, making their eyes appear short. Canthoplasty is a procedure that involves cutting and shifting the skin at the inner corner of the eye to make the eyes appear longer.
