Why do I feel chest tightness when it’s time to go to bed?

Sleep itself has many benefits for our human body. Even if we have some minor health problems, they can be completely solved after a good night's sleep. This is mainly due to the body's self-repair ability. However, sleep may sometimes be affected by external factors, resulting in poor sleep quality, and the body's self-repair function cannot be fully exerted. So, why do you feel chest tightness when it’s time to go to bed?

1. Functional chest tightness (i.e. chest tightness without organic disease): Staying in a room with closed doors and windows and poor air circulation for a long time, or having mood problems, or being in a climate with low air pressure will often cause feelings of chest tightness and fatigue. After a short rest, opening windows for ventilation or going outside to breathe fresh air, relaxing your mind and regulating your emotions, you will soon return to normal. Functional chest tightness does not require stress or treatment.

2. Pathological chest tightness: Chest tightness can not only be physiological, but also be caused by diseases in certain organs in the body, that is, pathological chest tightness.

Generally there are the following types:

1. Lung diseases: emphysema, bronchitis, asthma, atelectasis, pulmonary infarction, pneumothorax;

2. Respiratory obstruction: tumors in the trachea and bronchus, tracheal stenosis, and external pressure on the trachea (thyroid enlargement, tumors in the mediastinum);

3. Heart disease: certain congenital heart diseases, rheumatic heart valve disease, coronary heart disease, heart tumors;

4. Disturbance of fluid metabolism and acid-base balance, etc.

5. Diaphragmatic diseases: diaphragmatic swelling and diaphragmatic paralysis;

In short, chest tightness must be taken seriously to avoid delaying necessary treatment. You should go to the hospital for relevant examinations so that the clinical physician can further confirm the diagnosis.
