Is chronic erythematous gastritis serious?

Gastritis is a common stomach disease that people may encounter in their daily lives. It has a great impact on people's physical health. There are many types of gastritis, including chronic and acute. Chronic erythematous gastritis is a relatively common symptom of gastritis, but for many people, even if they have this symptom, they are not very clear what it is. So let us understand what chronic erythematous gastritis is.

Chronic erythematous antral gastritis is an inflammation limited to the gastric antrum. Men over 30 years old are at high risk of this disease. The main symptoms of patients include upper abdominal fullness, pain, anorexia, etc. Patients with a longer illness period may also develop complications such as weight loss, low immunity, and hemorrhagic anemia. Therefore, appropriate methods should be used for treatment as soon as possible. To treat this disease, targeted methods should be adopted, such as diet control and the use of drugs with sedative, antacid, antispasmodic and analgesic effects.

In general, the treatment of chronic erythematous antral gastritis should be individualized as much as possible based on the cause. If the patient is not infected with Helicobacter pylori or has no symptoms, no treatment is required. Otherwise, it can be treated by:

1. Methods to eradicate Helicobacter pylori: Patients with chronic erythematous antral gastritis caused by Helicobacter pylori infection usually have indigestion as the main symptom. Patients can use combined medication methods for treatment under the guidance of a doctor. After standardized medication treatment, Helicobacter pylori can be eradicated, and the digestive system function will gradually return to normal. However, patients should undergo a detailed examination after the treatment. If the test result is still positive, they should not continue the medication immediately. Instead, they should wait for a period of time to avoid a decrease in the sensitivity of the drug.

2. Symptomatic treatment: Patients with chronic erythematous antral gastritis should choose appropriate drug treatment according to their actual situation.

(1) Patients with concomitant bile reflux symptoms can be treated with prokinetic drugs. Commonly used drugs of this type include domperidone. They can also be used in combination with gastric mucosal protective agents that have the function of binding bile acid. Drugs of this type that are more effective include aluminum carbonate magnesium preparations.

(2) If the patient has symptoms such as gastric mucosal erosion, upper abdominal pain, acid reflux, etc., the drugs that can be used include antacids, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), and H2 receptor antagonists. However, the use of these drugs must be based on the condition of the patient.

(3) For patients whose main symptoms are upper abdominal distension, vomiting, and nausea, prokinetic drugs such as domperidone, mosapride, and itopride hydrochloride can be used for treatment.

In addition to the above-mentioned drug treatments, patients with chronic erythematous gastritis can also choose symptomatic drugs such as gastric mucosal protectants, antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. However, no matter which medicine you use, you must be guided by a professional doctor and never take it blindly on your own to avoid increasing the incidence of drug side effects.
