Is ovarian goiter hereditary?

Is ovarian goiter hereditary?

There is thyroid tissue in the human body, and the thyroid tissue is mainly distributed in the ovaries, so goiter can cause ovarian diseases. After examination, it is usually a pathological problem, and it develops very rapidly, and may even cause multiple complications in the patient's body.

Disease Overview

Ovarian goiter is more common in patients over 40 years old. Thyroid tissue is mostly present in ovarian dermoid cysts, ovarian teratomas and other masses. It is mostly unilateral, mainly benign, and relatively rare. Ovarian ectopic thyroid with hyperthyroidism is extremely rare. In ovarian goiter hyperthyroidism, the thyroid gland is nodular or diffusely enlarged, exophthalmos is rare, and an abdominal mass is a characteristic manifestation. The mass is hard, has clear edges, or is tender. The diagnosis is usually based on pathological examination, and occasionally can be found by isotope iodine scanning.

Precautions

Clinically, female patients with hyperthyroidism should pay attention to the following: ① If they also have ovarian tumors or ascites, or pleural effusion, the possibility of ovarian goiter should be considered; ② If the hyperthyroidism cannot be completely relieved after surgical removal of the cervical goiter, the possibility of ovarian goiter should also be considered.

(1) Iodine deficiency: It is one of the main causes of endemic goiter. However, iodine deficiency is not the only cause of endemic goiter. In some areas where the iodine content in the environment is high, there may also be many patients with goiter. High iodine can also cause goiter. The minimum daily iodine requirement of the human body is about 75μg, and the daily intake should not be less than 150μg.

(B) Goitrogenic substances: ① Radish foods contain thiourea-type goitrogenic substances. Soybeans and cabbage also contain certain substances that can inhibit the synthesis of thyroid hormones, causing goiter. ② The content of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc in soil and drinking water is also related to the occurrence of goiter. In some endemic areas, except iodine, the above elements are also lacking. In some areas, the incidence of goiter is directly proportional to the hardness of drinking water. ③Drugs such as potassium thiocyanate, potassium perchlorate, para-aminosalicylic acid, thiouracil, sulfonamides, phenylbutazone, colchicine, etc. can hinder the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Large amounts of iodide can inhibit the synthesis and release of thyroid hormones, thereby causing goiter.

(III) Hormone synthesis disorder: The cause of familial goiter is hereditary enzyme deficiency, which causes hormone synthesis disorder. For example, lack of peroxidase and deiodinase affects the synthesis of thyroid hormone, or lack of hydrolase makes it difficult to separate thyroid hormone from thyroglobulin and release it into human blood, which can lead to goiter. This congenital defect is recessive.
