Waking up with blocked ears

Waking up with blocked ears

When you wake up from sleep, if you feel your ears are blocked, this will often cause hearing loss and make you feel very uncomfortable. Generally, this situation is related to colds and getting angry. The most common cause is otitis media. At this time, you should go to the ENT department for a check-up. You should drink more water and rest more. It may also be due to excessive earwax secretions. Let us learn more about this aspect.

Causes

1. Excessive earwax secretion Due to external otitis, eczema, working in a dusty environment, ear picking, etc., local irritation occurs, resulting in excessive earwax secretion. 2. Obstruction of earwax discharge. External auditory canal stenosis, scars, tumors, foreign bodies, etc. can all hinder the discharge of earwax. Frequent ear picking can push earwax deeper into the external auditory canal. Mandibular joint movement disorders or earwax soaked in water can affect the normal discharge of earwax.

treat

1. Smaller or flaky ones can be removed with tweezers. 2. The earwax hook removal method is to gently insert the earwax hook into the deep part of the external auditory canal along the back and upper wall of the external auditory canal and between the earwax plug. Be careful to avoid damaging the external auditory canal and the tympanic membrane. Then gently turn the earwax hook to hook the earwax plug and gradually hook it out. 3. External auditory canal suction method. If the earwax is hard and difficult to remove, or the earwax is tightly embedded in the external auditory canal, and the patient is obviously in pain and has difficulty cooperating during the removal process, you can first use 5% to 10% sodium bicarbonate solution to drip into the ear, 3 to 5 times a day. After each drop of the medicine, let the affected ear stand upward for 5 to 10 minutes, and wait for it to soften after 3 to 4 days. Then go to the ENT specialist clinic and use a suction device to remove the softened earwax. 4. External auditory canal flushing method can be used for those who have difficulty removing the eardrum using the above method. The earwax needs to be softened before flushing, and 5% to 10% sodium bicarbonate solution should be dripped into the ear 4 to 5 times a day. After each drip, the affected ear should be left facing upward for 5 to 10 minutes. After 3 to 4 days, wait for it to fully or partially swell before flushing.

prevention

1. Keeping the external auditory canal clean is the first condition to prevent cerumen embolism. If there is earwax and the external auditory canal feels itchy, you can gently wipe it with a cotton swab dipped in medical alcohol. This will not only relieve the itching but also disinfect and prevent infection. 2. It is best to have a doctor check you before swimming and remove the earwax debris to prevent it from swelling and forming an embolism after water intake. If water enters the external auditory canal, symptoms may worsen and ear pain is often present. Therefore, if there is too much earwax, you should go to the hospital regularly to ask an ear specialist to help remove it to prevent earwax embolism. 3. Once earwax induces inflammation, you should first actively reduce the inflammation and remove the plug as soon as possible to prevent poor drainage from causing the inflammation to spread inward. When earwax is completely blocked, ears will feel stuffy, tinnitus, and hearing loss. After the earwax is removed, be sure to keep it clean and dry.
