Centipede grass, the name of a Chinese herbal medicine. It is the wolf grass or underground rhizome of the green plant Pteris vittata L. of the Pteridaceae family. Shape characteristics

A small to medium-sized terrestrial fern with a main stem 30-150 cm high. The underground stem is short, oblique or horizontal, and densely covered with yellow-brown striped scales. Leaves are thin leathery, monotypic, densely grown; leaf stems 5-25 cm long, straw-colored, sometimes bluish-purple, with linear yellow-brown scales at the tip; leaves broadly oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 20-94 cm long, 5-25 cm wide, gradually narrowing at the tip, caudate at the apex, odd-to-palmate; pinnae 30-50 pairs, pairs or symbiotic, sessile, linear or strip-lanceolate, with broadly wedge-shaped or shallowly cordate at the tip, gradually pointed at the apex, with obtuse teeth on the sterile margins, middle pinnae very large, 2.5-16 cm long, 2-10 mm wide, with sparse yellow-brown scales and nodular hairs on the reverse side; petiole palmate, lateral veins dichotomous or unbranched. The sori are linear, growing on the marginal veins of the pinnae, continuously distributed, and the sori cover is the same shape, membranous, entire, and grayish white.
