What are the causes of cerebral palsy in newborns? How to prevent cerebral palsy in children?

The causes of cerebral palsy in children. Most of us are familiar with cerebral palsy in children. The incidence of this disease has continued to rise in recent years, causing great harm to many families. So, what are the causes of cerebral palsy in children?

Causes of cerebral palsy in newborns

(1) Early pregnancy: There has been a neurotropic virus infection, especially rubella, which is most likely to cause fetal encephalitis; another example is threatened abortion, during the bleeding period, the placenta and uterus have separated, causing fetal ischemia in the uterus and forming a lesion.

(ii) In the middle and late stages of pregnancy: pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, placental vasospasm, insufficient blood supply to the fetus, and brain hypoxia will form lesions. In the middle and late stages of pregnancy, abdominal injuries to the mother, syphilis and other diseases such as severe heart or kidney disease, diabetes, prenatal uterine bleeding, early placental abruption, etc. will reduce blood and oxygen supply to the uterus, causing lesions to form somewhere in the fetal brain.

(III) Delivery period: Asphyxia and brain damage during delivery are the most common causes.

(IV) Low birth weight of newborns: 40% of newborns with cerebral palsy have a birth weight of less than 2500 grams, which is related to maternal illness or malnutrition. Low birth weight newborns often have insufficient brain weight, and premature infants have an increased chance of intracranial hemorrhage. The brain also receives insufficient oxygen and other nutrients, making it easy for lesions to form at the bleeding site.

(V) After birth: cerebral kernicterus, various types of encephalitis, meningitis, toxic encephalopathy, cerebral hypoxia, cerebrovascular disease, hypoglycemia, brain trauma, lead poisoning and other factors.

Prevention of cerebral palsy in children

1. Prevention before birth: Ensure good birth and upbringing, do early prenatal examinations carefully, and do a good job of perinatal care for pregnant women to prevent congenital diseases. If fetal abnormalities are discovered during pregnancy, the pregnancy should be terminated early. Note to pregnant women: Avoid viral infections such as influenza, rubella, etc. Especially during the 10th to 18th week of pregnancy, when the fetal nervous system develops rapidly, more attention should be paid to preventing infection. Do not abuse drugs, especially anesthetics and sedatives, and refrain from smoking and drinking; avoid contact with toxic and harmful substances and radiation.

2. Prevention during the birth process: An important cause of cerebral palsy in children is fetal asphyxia and intracranial hemorrhage during delivery. Preventing premature birth, dystocia, and avoiding harm to newborns during delivery are crucial links in preventing cerebral palsy in children. Once neonatal asphyxia, intracranial hemorrhage and other diseases occur, active treatment should be carried out to reduce damage to the newborn.

3. Prevention of sequelae of cerebral palsy in children: Brain infection, cerebrovascular disease, brain trauma, etc. can all cause acquired cerebral palsy in children. Pay attention to prevention and treatment of the primary disease.
