Baby likes to lick clothes

In our lives, there are many babies who like to lick clothes. Many mothers have no way to deal with it when their babies lick clothes, because there are more bacteria on the clothes. If the baby's physical fitness is relatively poor, it is easy to bring some germs into the body and get some diseases. However, if the baby is not allowed to lick clothes, they will always cry. So why do babies like to lick clothes?

Licking clothes is actually normal. It is not due to lack of nutrition. When your baby adds clothes or fingers, you must ensure that the clothes or fingers are clean and hygienic to better protect the baby's health.

Generally, babies start to eat complementary foods from around four months old, but it is common to see babies licking clothes at this stage. Most of the time, it is because the baby is about to grow teeth and their gums are itchy, so the baby will suck his fingers, clothes, or toys. At this time, the baby also loves to drool. You can buy a teething stick for the baby to bite. Babies at this stage should also supplement calcium and be allowed to go outdoors more often to get more sun exposure, which helps calcium absorption.

Moms should rest assured, such babies have everything they need. It is normal for babies to lick clothes. It is a biological foraging instinct. When they cannot lick their hands, they will lick other objects. You should encourage your baby to suck their fingers more, because moving the hands to the midline can promote the active extension of the hands and develop hand skills, thereby establishing hand-mouth connection and laying the foundation for hand-eye coordination. As long as you keep your baby's hands clean, you don't have to worry about your baby sucking his fingers.
