Second menstrual period after egg retrieval

Second menstrual period after egg retrieval

Nowadays, many families prefer to have only one baby, but some couples have been unable to have babies for a long time after marriage. This situation troubles many families, so some people choose to go to the hospital for in vitro fertilization. In vitro fertilization is to take out the man's sperm and the woman's egg, put them in a test tube to let them combine. Egg retrieval will disrupt the woman's menstrual balance, so what is the second menstruation like after egg retrieval?

During the ovulation process, in order to obtain more eggs than the natural state (1), drugs are used to reduce the sensitivity of the pituitary gland, blocking the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis, causing the pituitary gland to lose control of the ovaries. As a result, exogenous hormones replace endogenous hormones, act on the ovaries, and stimulate the growth and development of multiple follicles.

After the egg retrieval, the doctor will provide luteal support to the transplanted patient and use drugs to promote endometrial decidualization to maintain pregnancy. For those who do not undergo transplantation, stopping the medication will remove the effects of exogenous hormones. Because the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis is blocked, endogenous hormones are also insufficient, hormone levels drop, and menstruation occurs. This is the first menstruation. Menstruation is not caused by ovulation and endogenous hormones, but by the withdrawal of exogenous hormones and withdrawal bleeding.

Menstruation has come, but for most friends, the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis is still resting and ovulation has not yet resumed, so the next menstruation may have to wait until endogenous hormones regain control of the ovaries and ovulation resumes. This is why the "second period" is late.

We arrange for friends to come to the hospital after their second menstrual period in the hope that the function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis will be restored. Most friends will arrange the transplantation of frozen embryos in the third menstrual cycle. After the second menstrual period, the hospital will usually arrange an endometrial preparation plan for the next menstrual cycle. Of course, there are also friends whose hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis function recovers quickly, and their second menstrual cycle may be observed and evaluated to be normal. At this time, they can also undergo transplantation, but after all, there are not many such friends.
