What to do if your eyes are super itchy

Everyone knows that itchy and painful eyes is a disease that many people will face, and it cannot be completely treated by medical means. Itchy and painful eyes are caused by not paying attention to eye health. Patients need to pay attention to their daily eating habits. Itchy and painful eyes prevent many patients from concentrating on study and work, and cause great damage to the eyes. People who are suffering from this disease hope to solve their itchy and painful eyes as soon as possible, so they will go to the ophthalmology department of the hospital to consult authoritative doctors. So, what to do if your eyes are super itchy?

1. Eye allergy (allergic conjunctivitis)

Allergic eye itching mostly occurs in the spring when flowers bloom. At this time, there are many plant pollens floating in the air. When the conjunctiva of the eye is accidentally allergic to pollen, it will manifest as extreme itching of the eyes.

Common allergens include:

1. Protein allergens These can be divided into several categories: indoor/animal, outdoor, plant/food or injectable allergens.

1.1 Indoor/animals: dust mites, animal fur, cockroaches, mold

1.2 Outdoors: grass, tree and weed pollen, mold spores

1. 3 Plants/Food: Fruits, vegetables, nuts, milk, eggs, shellfish, fish

1.4 Injectables: snake venom, certain therapeutic proteins

2. Substances that come into contact with the skin often cause allergic reactions in the eyelids, the same as contact dermatitis. Eyelid allergies often cause a rash or swelling and inflammation of the skin around the eyes. Such allergens include preservatives, metals, nail polish and makeup, medications, and eye drops.

Allergy sensitivity may increase with increasing exposure to air pollutants.

Allergic eye itching is usually just a simple itch, and if there is discharge, it is usually watery. Allergic eye itching is often accompanied by nasal allergies in the owner, such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, etc.

2. Dry eye disease

When your eyes itch, there is obvious dryness and soreness, and you may also feel as if there is something uncomfortable in your eyes. This is generally caused by dry eye disease.

Dry eye disease sometimes does not only exist in the eyes, but is a systemic connective tissue disease. People with dry eye disease often also have a dry mouth and tongue. When dry eye disease occurs, the water secretion in the eyes decreases, and the eyes will become itchy, dry, with increased eye secretions and even burning pain.

When the weather is dry, people who use their eyes more often often suffer from dry eye disease. From students to white-collar workers in front of computers, or people engaged in clerical work, all will have varying degrees of eye fatigue, decreased vision or symptoms of dry eye disease.

Three: Trachoma

Trachoma is a chronic conjunctivitis and keratitis that often causes itchy eyes, making people rub and scratch their eyes uncontrollably. Trachoma is easy to identify. Turn over your eyelids. If you see red particles inside that look like sand, it can basically be confirmed as trachoma.

However, trachoma was a prevalent eye disease in my country during the period of liberation, but now trachoma is basically non-existent. Therefore, the incidence of trachoma is generally low. If you do have trachoma, you should go to the hospital immediately for treatment.

Itchy eye disease 4: Canthalitis

To put it simply, canthitis faciens is an inflammation caused by infection in the corner of the eye. Canthitis facalis can cause unbearable itching in the corners of the eyes, as well as photophobia and tearing. In severe cases, the corners of the eyes and eyelids may become congested and swollen.

Canthitis facalis is caused by an infection with a bacterium called Bismuth avium and is usually treated with 0.5% sulphate eye drops.
