Angina duration

Angina duration

The onset time of angina pectoris is related to the type of angina pectoris. The onset time of acute angina pectoris is generally within 30 minutes, and for chronic angina pectoris, it usually stops within a few minutes. However, during the period of angina pectoris, the patient's heart is in great pain and breathing will be very difficult. If it is not treated in time, serious conditions such as shock may occur.

1. The onset of angina pectoris is a clinical syndrome caused by acute and temporary myocardial ischemia and hypoxia after insufficient blood supply to the coronary arteries of the heart. The main symptoms are paroxysmal squeezing pain in the front chest, feeling suffocated and panicky, as if a big stone is pressing on your chest. The location is mainly behind the sternum, and can also spread to the precordial area and shoulders. The attacks are often caused by overwork, emotional excitement, overeating, etc.

2. After the symptoms appear, they often gradually worsen, last for a period of time after reaching a certain level, and then gradually disappear. Angina pectoris generally lasts from several minutes to more than ten minutes, mostly 3 to 5 minutes, rarely more than half an hour, and will not disappear in an instant or last for several hours. Often the patient will feel better after resting, and taking nitroglycerin sublingually will also provide relief quickly. If the coronary heart disease is more serious, angina pectoris may occur once every few days or weeks, or multiple times in a day.

3. If the angina symptoms persist for more than 20 minutes and gradually worsen, or if sublingual nitroglycerin does not relieve the symptoms, then you need to consider a myocardial infarction, that is, blood vessel blockage, and you need to go to the hospital immediately for emergency treatment. There is no time to waste.

Although angina pectoris is a dull pain, it does not cause any substantial damage. The attack is short and will be relieved in about 5 minutes. It will be relieved immediately after taking medicine. However, if it is not relieved, you should go to the hospital immediately as you may have a myocardial infarction, which is life-threatening and cannot be delayed. I wish you good health and safety.
