Analysis of the causes of oral ulcers in the elderly

Many elderly people suffer from oral ulcers. There are many reasons for oral ulcers in the elderly, the biggest factor of which is immune function problems. As we all know, the immunity of the elderly is relatively poor, and they have no way to resist bacterial infections, so it is easy for them to get oral ulcers. Of course, lack of nutrition, digestive system abnormalities or mental factors can also easily lead to oral ulcers.

1. Immune function issues

It may be an overactive autoimmune response or a serious defect in autoimmune function. The second situation is the most common. Relevant reports have pointed out that infection by certain bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms may be the main cause of recurrent oral ulcers. Patients with systemic diseases are prone to oral ulcers, mainly by affecting the immune system.

Oral ulcers are related to gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis, hepatitis, etc. Studies have shown that 30%-48% of patients with oral ulcers have digestive tract diseases, such as abdominal distension, diarrhea or constipation. More than 9% of them have gastrointestinal ulcers.

2. Lack of nutrition

Lack of vitamins and trace elements is one of the reasons for the recurrence of oral ulcers, such as lack of vitamin B12, folic acid, and trace elements iron and zinc. Long-term lack of these nutrients will lead to reduced human immunity and increase the possibility of recurrent oral ulcers.

3. Abnormal digestive system

Digestive system dysfunction and the occurrence of digestive tract diseases are also one of the reasons why patients repeatedly suffer from oral ulcers. For example, symptoms such as constipation, indigestion, diarrhea, abdominal distension, duodenal ulcer, colitis, gastric ulcer, chronic or persistent hepatitis may lead to recurrence of oral ulcers in patients.

4. Mental Factors

Certain mental factors may also be responsible for recurrent oral ulcers in patients. In modern life, many people are under pressure from all sides, and mood swings, mental tension, poor sleep conditions, etc. also occur frequently. Oral ulcers are more likely to recur under these conditions.
