Will the fetal hair fall off by itself?

After a baby is born, you will find that the baby's hair is different. Some people will find that the baby's hair grows on the face and head, and it is heavier than the sweat hair. In fact, it will not affect the fetus from doing other things. As the fetus grows older, the fetal hair will gradually disappear on its own. Inexperienced mothers will definitely not be very clear about this situation, so they need to pay attention to whether the fetal hair will fall off by itself?

Newborn baby's hair is growing

During the pregnancy process, there will be two major shedding events. The first time is in the mother's womb, when the fetus is seven to eight months old. The shedding order is from the forehead to the sides and back of the neck. This time the hair loss happens in the womb, so the mother is not aware of it at all. The hair in these areas will continue to grow new hair when the baby is about to be born. The only exception is the hair on the occipital area at the back, which will not fall out during the first hair loss in the womb. After the baby is born, the hair on the back of the head will enter the resting phase and begin to fall out. At this time, the hair on the forehead and both sides will also fall out. Therefore, it is normal for babies to experience a small amount of hair loss from birth to 6 months old.

There are 3 forms of hair loss in babies:

1. The most common form is occipital baldness in newborns. The main reason for this form is that the hair on the occipital area does not fall off in the uterus and enters the resting period after birth. The hair in the resting period is easier to fall off. If the newborn sleeps on his back, the occipital area is constantly rubbed and stimulated, making it easier for the hair to fall off. This forms a rectangular, obvious bald area on the occipital bone at the lower back of the head.

2. The second most common form of hair loss is the loss of hair from the forehead to the sides. The hair in this area has already fallen out once in the womb, but some hair has entered the resting phase and has not fallen out, so it starts to fall out after birth. But unlike the hair on the pillow which is almost completely bald, it is just sparse.

3. A less common form of hair loss is widespread baldness of the entire head. This form of hair loss is called "neonatal telogen effluvium" and occurs in the neonatal period, that is, within four weeks after birth.

Experts remind : The first two forms of infantile alopecia mostly occur 8-12 weeks after birth. The speed of hair growth varies from baby to baby, but generally speaking, by the time a baby is one year old, the entire head of a baby with the above three forms of alopecia will be covered with hair. If a mother finds that her baby's hair is becoming thinner or has not grown at all, please don't be too nervous and wait patiently. If the baby's hair is still not ideal when the baby is one year old, parents should take the baby to see a dermatologist.
