What to do if your teeth bleed when you brush them

People will find that their teeth are bleeding when brushing their teeth, but few people will take it seriously. After all, this symptom will not get worse again and again, so no treatment is taken. In fact, bleeding gums are caused by different medical reasons. The most important thing is to find the cause and then treat it. In terms of diet, you can no longer eat spicy foods to stimulate it.

For acute gingival bleeding, emergency hemostasis should be performed first, such as packing, compressing the bleeding area, suturing the gingival papilla, periodontal plugging, etc. If necessary, short-term systemic hemostatic drugs should be used, but the indications should be strictly controlled.

In view of the fact that gingival bleeding is mostly caused by local factors, a) local irritants should be removed promptly, including supragingival cleaning and subgingival scaling to remove plaque, tartar and other pathogenic factors; treat food impaction; remove poor restorations, fillings, and orthodontic appliances; correct bad oral habits, etc. b) Oral hygiene education, control of plaque, and cultivation of good oral hygiene habits, including correct brushing of teeth in the morning and evening, proper use of dental floss and toothpicks, regular periodontal examinations and periodontal supportive treatment; c) Quitting smoking, increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables, etc.

For gingival bleeding suspected to be related to systemic health conditions, sufficient attention should be paid and relevant examinations should be performed in a timely manner, such as routine blood tests, coagulation phase, liver and kidney function, etc., and treatment measures should be taken for systemic diseases.

1. Children in the mixed dentition period often have temporary misalignment of the teeth due to the replacement of deciduous and permanent teeth, which can easily lead to gum inflammation. If oral hygiene is not paid attention to, it can easily cause eruptive gingivitis and lead to bleeding gums.

2. Adolescents are prone to adolescent gingivitis, and bleeding gums are also common. The main reason is poor hygiene habits, coupled with the obvious changes in endocrine (sex hormones) during adolescence, which makes the gingival tissue susceptible to obvious inflammatory reactions to trace local irritants, resulting in gingival bleeding.

3. Pregnant women who have suffered from chronic gingivitis before pregnancy will often suffer from spontaneous bleeding of the gums after the increase in progesterone levels during pregnancy. During pregnancy, tumor-like hyperplasia of the gingival papillae may occur, which is called "gestational gingival tumor", which is very easy to bleed. Generally, the gingival tumor and bleeding symptoms will disappear or partially disappear during menstruation and after delivery.

4. Middle-aged and elderly people with certain systemic diseases (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc.). Diabetic patients are prone to gum infection and bleeding due to hypoxia of gum capillaries and reduced ability to resist bacteria. In addition, some middle-aged and elderly patients with hypertension and coronary heart disease should be wary of myocardial infarction and thrombosis. Long-term oral aspirin should be used to prevent gingivitis, which makes bleeding more likely. Long-term users should be cautious.

5. Patients who are bedridden for a long time, unable to take care of themselves, and those who have poor oral care are also susceptible to gingival bleeding.
