What to do if your stomach is not good and you feel bloated

In modern society, the chances of people suffering from stomach problems have greatly increased, which is mainly a consequence of improper living and eating habits. When stomach problems occur, people should pay great attention to protecting their stomachs, otherwise the condition will be greatly aggravated. Some patients, when suffering from stomach problems, not only experience stomach pain but also a feeling of bloating. So what measures should be taken to deal with these two situations?

1. Stomach bloating and indigestion are manifestations of indigestion. Common causes of indigestion are gastritis, gastric ulcer and other diseases. If you have a history of stomach problems, you should pay more attention to stomach care. It is recommended that you go directly to the hospital for examination and you can have a gastroscopy to clarify the cause and severity of the disease and actively treat it. In daily life, pay attention to eating light and easy to digest food, and avoid spicy and irritating food.

2. The symptoms are that it cannot be pressed, and pressing will aggravate the discomfort, causing belching, nausea, and a foul smell after burping. You can use: 30 grams of charred hawthorn, 15 grams of stir-fried aurantium, decocted in water to extract juice, take it in 3 times, after meals; 15 grams of Shenqu, 10 grams each of tangerine peel and Cyperus rotundus, 6 grams of chicken gizzard lining, decocted in water to extract juice, take it in 3 times; 6 grams each of stir-fried aurantium and Magnolia officinalis, 15 grams of hawthorn, decocted in water to extract juice, take it in 3 times; 6 grams each of Magnolia officinalis and Atractylodes macrocephala, 10 grams of tangerine peel, decocted in water to extract juice, take it in 3 times; 15 grams of hawthorn and 10 grams of radish seeds, decocted in water to extract juice, take it in 2 times.

3. Poor gastrointestinal digestion and bloating. You can try taking metoclopramide. It is recommended to approach it from two aspects. To regulate the stomach and intestines, Job's tears, Euryale ferox, etc. are all things that strengthen the spleen and stomach. Paired with things that nourish the blood and qi, such as red dates and wolfberries, they can be cooked together into soup or porridge, which is very good for the stomach and intestines.

4. Abdominal bloating is caused by poor digestion and may also be a manifestation of chronic gastritis. It is necessary to conduct an examination to clarify the specific situation if necessary. It is best to perform gastroscopy or barium meal examination to determine whether there are problems such as chronic gastritis. If so, it is best to perform a C13 breath test to see if there is a problem of Helicobacter pylori infection. Targeted treatment is needed if necessary. You can also take some itopride, stomach-strengthening and digestion-promoting tablets and other medications for treatment.

5. If you avoid the above mistakes before and after meals, but still have bloating, you can eat some stomach-strengthening and appetizing foods, such as some hawthorn before meals, or stomach-strengthening and digestion-promoting tablets to help digestion.

6. If you have tried all these and they don’t work, it is recommended that you see a doctor to check whether the bloating is caused by indigestion, and then take medicine as recommended by the doctor.

What causes bloating?

1. Swallowing too much gas

About 90% of intestinal gas is swallowed orally. A normal person swallows about 500 to 1000 cc of air every day. The main components of air are oxygen and nitrogen. When the human body swallows air into the small intestine, oxygen will be absorbed, while nitrogen goes to the large intestine and becomes the main component of intestinal gas. In many cases, the human body swallows air without realizing it, for example, when chewing gum, eating quickly, talking while eating, drinking carbonated beverages such as soda, cola, beer, or eating foods that easily produce gas. In addition, some people will swallow their saliva involuntarily when they are nervous. These factors will lead to an increase in intestinal gas.

2. The large intestine produces too much gas

The intestines produce gas due to intestinal motility disorders, which cause bacteria to over-ferment food and produce a large amount of gas; or because there is a problem with a certain digestive enzyme in the intestine, which leads to indigestion of certain foods. The most common is "lactose intolerance", that is, the gastrointestinal tract cannot digest lactose. In this case, as long as you don't eat foods containing lactose, there will be no symptoms.

3. Excessive stomach acid can also cause bloating. Excess stomach acid and pancreatic juice in the stomach will produce carbon dioxide after neutralization, causing bloating and burping. In addition, if the anus is too tight, it will be difficult to pass gas, and chronic constipation will gradually cause abdominal bloating. We can analyze the cause of abdominal bloating by directly analyzing the gas content ratio in the body. If you swallow too much gas, the concentration of nitrogen and oxygen in the intestine will be higher. If the flatulence is caused by bacterial fermentation in the intestine, the concentration of hydrogen and oxygen in the intestine will be higher.

4. Foods that easily cause gas production

Because the human body lacks enzymes to digest carbohydrates such as oligosaccharides and polysaccharides, after ingesting these foods, they are not digested in the small intestine, but are broken down and utilized by intestinal bacteria in the large intestine, which then produces a large amount of gas (carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane). These "gas-producing foods" that may cause bloating include: beans, onions, eggplant, sweet potatoes, potatoes, corn, citrus fruits, beverages and desserts with added sweeteners (sorbitol), etc.
