The herb Pharbitis nigra has many medicinal values. We should choose the dosage according to its usage to avoid adverse reactions to the body. The dosage of something like morning glory seeds is about 3g, and should not exceed 6g, otherwise it will affect the health of the stomach and intestines. Morning glory seed is a toxic drug that can kill insects in the stomach and intestines and treat gastrointestinal inflammation, but consuming too much can cause poisoning.

Morning glory, also known as Erchou and trumpet flower, often grows in bushes in the mountains and can often be seen on the roadside. The fruit is ripe in late autumn but harvested before the shell cracks. The seeds can be produced after drying.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the seeds of the morning glory are bitter and pungent in taste, cold and poisonous in nature, and have the effects of killing insects, eliminating phlegm and fluid, and purging water and relieving constipation. They can treat symptoms such as tapeworm disease, gas reversal, cough, edema, and constipation.

Therapeutic effects

1. Cold air flows in, causing back pain and inability to bend forward or backward

Three liang of black morning glory seeds (fried), two liang of Psoralea corylifolia (fried), and two liang of Corydalis yanhusuo. Grind the three herbs into fine powder, grind them into pills with simmered garlic, the size of sycamore seeds. Take thirty pills each time, and drink it with fried scallion and salt soup before meals.

2. Treatment of intestinal abscesses with pus

Three qian of morning glory seed powder, one qian of myrrh and frankincense, two qian of pangolin (calcined), and two qian of rhubarb. Grind the above herbs into fine powder and take three qian each time, mixed with white soup.

3. Wind-heat red eyes

Take appropriate amount of Pharbitis seeds, grind them into powder, mix with scallion soup and apply to the affected area.

4. Children with abdominal distension, red and astringent urine, watery edema, and bladder heat

Grind one qian of raw morning glory seeds, take it with Qingpi decoction on an empty stomach, add half the amount of costus root, make honey pills, and take it orally.

5. Edema

Take an appropriate amount of Pharbitis seeds, grind them into powder, add water to mix and take once a day until you have a bowel movement.

Diet therapy

Morning glory seed porridge

Ingredients: 2 slices of ginger, 80 grams of polished rice, 1 gram of morning glory seeds

Preparation method: Wash the japonica rice and put it into a pot, add water and ginger slices to cook into porridge, grind the morning glory seeds into powder, pour it into the porridge and stir well.

How to eat: Take once a day on an empty stomach. Eat in small amounts at the beginning. Physalis seed porridge is not suitable for long-term or large-scale consumption.

Efficacy: It can relieve diuresis and swelling, and promote bowel movements and relieve gas. It can be eaten by patients with edema and constipation.

It has the effects of laxative, diuretic, detumescence and anthelmintic. It is mainly used to treat limb edema, nephritis edema, ascites due to cirrhosis, constipation, abdominal pain due to worm ingestion, etc.

Preparation of Pharbitis seeds: Take the original medicinal materials, pick out impurities, wash off the dirt with clean water, and dry them in the sun. To stir-fry the seeds of the Pharbitis lily, take the seeds of the Pharbitis lily and place them in a frying pan. Heat over low heat and stir-fry until they are slightly puffed up, have a fragrant smell, and show a fiery color. Take them out and spread them to cool. The finished product is occasionally browned. After frying, its diuretic and laxative effects can be alleviated.

Function: Enters the lung, kidney and large intestine meridians; slightly toxic; has a laxative and expel parasites.

Indications: Suitable for ascites, abdominal distension and constipation, ascariasis, etc.

The seeds of morning glory contain palmitic acid, gibberellin A3, gibberellin A20, gibberellin A26, A27, and morning glory acid C and D. Although it is slightly poisonous, it can cure edema, phlegm, cough, constipation, ascariasis, nematodes, athlete's foot, etc. Pregnant women and people with qi and spleen deficiency should not take it.
