When the respiratory and laryngeal muscles spasm, the child may experience difficulty breathing, cyanosis, and suffocation. If the disease is not treated promptly and effectively, the child will suffer more and more cramps. Severe hypoxia can cause hypoxic necrosis of brain cells.
