Liver depression transforming into fire type: symptoms include irritability, dry mouth and bitter taste, yellow urine, and red tongue with yellow coating. The principles of treatment are to soothe the liver and reduce fire, calm the mind and tranquilize the nerves. Commonly used medicines are gentian, coptis, bupleurum, peony, selfheal, lily, rush, etc.

Deficiency of both heart and spleen type: Symptoms include insomnia, frequent dreams, palpitations, forgetfulness, dizziness, limb fatigue, mental fatigue, loss of interest in food, pale tongue with thin white coating, etc. The principle of treatment is to invigorate Qi, nourish the heart and calm the mind. Commonly used medicines are ginseng, astragalus, longan meat, yam, alpinia oxyphylla, costus root, polygala, spinosa jujube seed, polyphylla polyphylla, and malt.

Yin deficiency and fire excess type: Symptoms include insomnia, restlessness, dizziness, tinnitus, dry mouth, night sweats, fever in the five parts of the body, sore waist and weak legs, and red tongue with little fluid. The treatment principle is to nourish yin and reduce fire, nourish the heart and calm the mind. Commonly used medicines are raw rehmannia, cornus officinalis, moutan bark, poria, coptis chinensis, peony root, glossy privet fruit, mulberry seed, lily, anemarrhena asphodeloides, and cypress seed.

Traditional Chinese medicine calls the phenomenon of insomnia "insomnia". This situation is caused by the imbalance of yin and yang in the human body and the failure of yang to enter yin. The traditional Chinese medicine treatment of insomnia mainly utilizes the treatment concept of "holistic concept and syndrome differentiation and treatment", using different treatment methods to gradually restore people's yin and yang, qi and blood, and organ functions.
