Pregnancy can cause fibroids to grow larger because of the large amounts of estrogen secreted during pregnancy.

In addition, diet during pregnancy has little effect on fibroadenomas, but do not eat foods high in estrogen.

Causes of Breast Fibroids

The cause of this disease is an abnormal increase in the sensitivity of lobular fibroblasts to estrogen, which may be related to the abnormal quality or quantity of estrogen receptors contained in the fibroblasts. Estrogen is the stimulating factor for the occurrence of this disease, so fibroadenoma occurs during the ovarian functional period.

Fibroadenomas grow slowly and may remain unchanged for years, but they may suddenly increase in size during pregnancy, lactation, or before menopause. Fibroadenomas with a diameter of more than 7 cm are called giant fibroadenomas. Fibroadenomas rarely become malignant, but giant fibromas may transform into phyllodes tumors.

Fibroids found before or after pregnancy should be surgically removed

Surgical resection is the only effective treatment for fibroadenomas. Because pregnancy can cause fibroadenomas to enlarge, fibroadenomas discovered before or after pregnancy should generally be surgically removed. The tumor must be routinely examined pathologically. Patients with multiple tumors or recurrent recurrences can be treated with male hormones or Chinese herbal medicine after surgery. It rarely recurs after pregnancy or breastfeeding.
