Mononucleosis

Mononucleosis

Mononucleosis is an acute, self-limiting infectious disease caused by the EBV virus in the body. When this type of mononucleosis occurs, the main clinical symptoms are fever, pharyngitis, and enlarged liver, spleen and lymph nodes in the patient. But how to treat this disease?

The growth of mononucleosis is rather idiosyncratic, so virus isolation is difficult. However, when culturing lymphocytes, immunofluorescence or electron microscopy can be used to detect the virus of the disease. EBV has B-cell tropism and can act as a mitogen, converting B lymphocytes into lymphoblasts.

The typical clinical features of this disease are fever, pharyngitis, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, atypical lymphocytes in the peripheral blood, positive heterophile agglutination test, and the appearance of anti-EBV antibodies in the body after infection. It can manifest as pneumonia type, hepatitis type, gastrointestinal type, arthritis type, nephritis type, neurological type, cardiac type, aplastic anemia type, low fever type, etc. The younger the age, the more atypical the clinical manifestations.

Susceptible populations: The general population is susceptible, but children and adolescents are more likely to be affected. Children under 6 years old usually suffer from this disease as latent or mild symptoms. Infection in children over 15 years of age often presents with typical symptoms. The disease provides lasting immunity and a second attack is uncommon.

The range of mononucleosis disease is relatively wide. When such a disease occurs, it is mainly more common in children or teenagers. They have many ways of transmission. It is recommended that when treating mononucleosis, you should cooperate with the doctor's diagnosis and treatment measures in a timely manner and take good care of your life.
