What to do if bitten by a dog

What to do if bitten by a dog

In today's society, more and more people keep pets. In rural areas, we can see that almost every family keeps dogs. It is very common for people to be bitten by dogs. If you are bitten by a dog, you must get an injection in time. Everyone knows about rabies. We have heard that if you are bitten by a dog, if you cannot deal with it in time, you may get this disease. So what should you do if you are bitten by a dog?

Spring is the mating season for dogs and cats, so we should be alert to the emergence of rabies, especially some dogs love to bite people. If you are bitten by a dog accidentally, you should pay special attention to it and treat the wound in time. Let's see what to do if you are bitten by a dog?

Rinse the wound. Rinse the wound immediately with running water to wash away the virus and squeeze out the blood as much as possible. If conditions permit, it is best to rinse with 20% soapy water for 20 to 30 minutes. Then disinfect with iodine, and then wash off the iodine with alcohol, and repeat this three times.

If the bite is severe, antiviral serum must be injected and used at the same time as the vaccine. Antiviral serum must be tested under the guidance of a doctor first.

Rabies phobia is a unique phenomenon in China. There is no other country in the world that takes rabies as seriously as China does. The widespread spread of prejudice and fallacies about rabies is one of the important reasons for the current widespread abuse of rabies vaccines in China.

Go to the local epidemic prevention department to get the vaccine immediately, and do not delay for a few days. The incubation period of rabies can be as short as 10 days or as long as several years.

1. The incubation period of rabies is usually 1-3 months. In a few severe bites to the head and face, the incubation period may be as short as 7 days. Only less than 1% of the total may have an incubation period of more than one year.

Second, healthy dogs do not spread rabies. A simple and practical identification method is the "ten-day observation method". WHO believes that if a dog (or cat) remains healthy during the 10-day observation period after biting a person, the person will not be infected.

3. If you are in an epidemic area where rabies is prevalent and have not been vaccinated before, you should be vaccinated immediately when you start the "10-day observation method" (don't wait foolishly for 10 days. If the observed animal really dies within 10 days, then it's green), and then determine whether the next few shots of vaccine are needed based on the observation results.

Fourth, there is no strict scientific evidence that rats and rabbits can transmit rabies. Birds, reptiles, fish and insects do not transmit rabies.

5. Proper wound flushing can reduce the incidence rate by more than 50%.

6. Assuming that the rabies virus has entered the central nervous system, the vaccine may still be effective at this time. After the rabies virus enters the central nervous system, it is either cleared or causes disease within 3-5 days. Under no circumstances can the rabies virus remain latent in the central nervous system (including the brain and spinal cord) for a long time.

7. Once rabies breaks out in a person, the person will definitely die within ten days. If someone suspects for a long time that he or she has symptoms of rabies, it definitely is not rabies.

8. As long as the vaccine is fully completed before the onset of the disease and effective antibodies are produced (note: immunization failure does not count), the rabies virus cannot "lurk" in the body and the disease will not occur again.

9. If the full course of immunization is completed with 3-5 injections, the protective effect can last for decades. If you are bitten again, 2 injections of reinforcement will be enough. This view is much lower than the standard set by the Ministry of Health.

10. Compared with WHO, our current national standards clearly lead to vaccine abuse. This is not only a serious waste of resources, but the official tone has also led the entire nation to become "panic-stricken."

What should you do if you are bitten by a dog? You should treat this matter correctly. Don't think that it's okay if you are bitten by a dog. I don't know if you have seen a report about a person who was bitten by a dog and it took decades for rabies to develop. It is very harmful to us. If you are bitten by a dog, you must clean the wound in time.
