High-risk behaviors for HIV infection

High-risk behaviors for HIV infection

AIDS is a relatively serious disease in today's society, and its incidence rate is relatively high. In recent years, the incidence rate of AIDS among young people in my country is relatively obvious, so some publicity on AIDS prevention is very important. We must understand some high-risk behaviors for HIV infection, such as multiple sexual partners, male homosexual behavior, etc., which are all relatively serious high-risk sexual behaviors.

High-risk behaviors for HIV infection

1. Multiple sexual partner behavior

Having sexual relations with multiple sexual partners at the same time is a high-risk factor for HIV infection for both homosexuals and heterosexuals. Moreover, the number of sexual partners is one of the important indicators for estimating the potential prevalence of HIV among young people.

Foreign scholars conducted a study on the sexual partners of a male AIDS patient who had sexual relations with an average of 20-30 women each year and found that among the 16 women who had sexual contact with this man, 10 were infected with HIV, and 3 of them had only had sexual intercourse with the patient once. Eight of the infected people developed typical or atypical symptoms of AIDS. Master once conducted a survey on 800 heterosexual people in four cities including New York where AIDS is prevalent. The subjects were divided into two groups: one group had only maintained sexual relations with the same sexual partner in the past five years, and the other group, each person had at least six sexual partners in the past five years.

The results showed that the HIV positivity rate in the former group was only 0.25%, while in the latter group it was only 6%, which was 24 times that of the former group. Generally speaking, HIV is difficult to transmit in comparison with other diseases, including other types of sexually transmitted diseases. A survey by American scientists found that if a man who has been infected with HIV continues to have unprotected sexual intercourse with a woman, he will transmit HIV to the woman once in 500 sexual intercourses. The chance of female-to-male transmission during this type of vaginal intercourse is smaller. Although some young people only have sexual relations with one person at a time, they maintain such sexual relations with multiple people, which may put them in dangerous situations unknowingly. In this type of one-on-one (rather than group) sexual contact, although the risk of HIV infection still exists, the awareness of self-protection (such as using condoms) is weakened.

2. Male homosexual behavior

A large number of gay men live in a high-risk environment for HIV infection. In the first type of epidemic areas, male homosexuals account for a large proportion of HIDS patients. Due to the high incidence of HIV infection among gay men, who engage in anal sex and tend to have multiple sexual partners, they are at greater risk of HIV infection. A survey of Canadian youth found that 40% of those who identified themselves as gay had five or more sexual partners, compared with only 27% of heterosexuals. Since the 1990s, the prevalence of HIV infection in developed countries has declined significantly. The main reason is that gay men generally have fewer sexual partners, less sexual contacts, and use condoms during sexual contacts.

Current research has found that for a variety of reasons, the sexual relationships of gay men are far more complex than those of heterosexuals. Among the 2.3 million male population aged 18-64 in Los Angeles, there are 410,000 homosexuals. According to the survey, these homosexuals have an average of 13.5 to 50 sexual partners in five years, and some have hundreds of sexual partners. This kind of mixed sexual relations undoubtedly greatly increases the chance of HIV transmission and leads to this situation among homosexuals. A 1987 survey of 1,034 single men aged 25-34 in San Francisco found that 49% of homosexual or bisexual people were HIV positive, and 71% of those with more than 50 sexual partners were HIV positive. It should be particularly mentioned that certain places of homosexuality act as "amplifiers" and "accelerators" in the spread of AIDS. If any homosexual who obtains sexual satisfaction in these places is an HIV carrier, they will quickly spread HIV to a large number of homosexuals in a short period of time.
