Chinese medicine red ochre

Chinese medicine red ochre

Red ochre is kaolinite with monoclinic crystal system. The main component is hydrated aluminum silicate. It is an irregular block structure. They are usually pink, red or purple, and some have red and white patterns. It is fragile, soft and highly absorbent. If you lick it with your tongue, it will feel sticky. The stickier it is, the more it shows that the red ochre is of top quality. It is widely distributed in our country.

Red ochre has long been used as a traditional Chinese medicinal material in ancient my country, and there are detailed descriptions of it in traditional Chinese medicine works such as "Ben Jing", "Yao Xing Lun" and "Compendium of Materia Medica". Taking red ochre internally can have a local protective effect on the inflamed gastrointestinal mucosa, and has a hemostatic effect on gastrointestinal bleeding. It can also absorb toxic substances and abnormal food fermentation products in the digestive tract. It can also treat nocturnal emission.

Red ochre not only contains a large amount of aluminum silicate, but also contains a considerable amount of iron oxide and other substances. If it is to be used as a traditional Chinese medicine, it needs to be further processed to remove impurities, then ground into fine powder, mixed with wax, rolled into strips and cut into pieces. After drying, it is placed in a crucible and calcined in a smokeless fire. Finally, it is taken out and allowed to cool, then rinsed with water three times, and then dried before being used.

From a pharmacological point of view, oral administration of red ochre can reduce irritation to the gastrointestinal tract, thereby playing an adsorptive antidiarrheal role. It can significantly shorten the coagulation time and bleeding time, thereby playing a role in hemostasis. For patients with rectal prolapse, you can boil water with pomegranate peel to clean the anus, then grind the red ochre into powder, sprinkle it evenly on the dressing, apply it to the anus and fix it with adhesive tape, which has a very good therapeutic effect.

From the perspective of clinical application, 20g each of Han Shui Shi, Red Shi Zhi, Rhubarb, and Phellodendron, and 12g of borneol. After high-pressure sterilization, the first four Chinese medicinal materials are ground into fine powder together with borneol and applied to the wounds of patients with burns or scalds. It will have a very good therapeutic effect. Patients with mild illnesses can recover within a week, and even for seriously ill patients, it only takes half a month to be cured.
