What are enzymes?

Enzyme is not only a component contained in the human body, but also an indispensable component in our lives. Enzyme now has a more well-known name, that is, enzyme! Speaking of enzymes, many friends know that the human body needs a lot of enzymes to work normally. For example, biological enzymes play a very important role for the human body. However, some friends don’t know what enzymes are.

This is understandable. After all, if we don’t pay attention to medical knowledge in our daily lives, it is impossible for us to understand it in such detail. However, if the human body lacks enzymes, it can cause serious harm. This article will provide you with a detailed analysis of what enzymes are and what their functions are.

Enzyme (German: Enzym, derived from Greek: ενζυμον, "inside the yeast"; also known as enzyme) refers to a high-molecular substance with biological catalytic function. In the enzyme-catalyzed reaction system, the reactant molecule is called the substrate, which is converted into another molecule through the catalysis of the enzyme. Almost all cellular activity processes require the participation of enzymes to improve efficiency. Similar to other non-biological catalysts, enzymes speed up reactions by reducing the activation energy (expressed as Ea or ΔG) of chemical reactions. Most enzymes can increase the rate of the reactions they catalyze by millions of times.

In fact, enzymes provide another pathway with lower activation energy requirements, allowing more reaction particles to have kinetic energy no less than the activation energy, thereby accelerating the reaction rate. As a catalyst, the enzyme itself is not consumed during the reaction and does not affect the chemical equilibrium of the reaction. Enzymes have both positive and negative catalytic effects, which not only speed up the reaction rate but also slow it down. Unlike other non-biological catalysts, enzymes are highly specific and only catalyze specific reactions or produce specific configurations.

Today's scientific community has formed a unified understanding of the close relationship between enzymes and health. Basically, the more enzymes the body has, the healthier and younger it is. Enzymes are life. In engineering, factors that affect enzymes include temperature, pH, concentration, charge, mechanical action, etc. The human body is equivalent to a huge fermentation system, which is equivalent to a large combination of more than 3,000 wine and vinegar brewing devices. It also needs to achieve fully automatic control to maintain relative stability of temperature (body temperature 37 degrees), acidity (weak alkalinity), water content (70%), voltage (normal electrocardiogram), and mechanical action (normal muscle activity and heartbeat). No one can control such a huge system.

To sum up, do you already know what enzymes are and what their functions are? Nowadays, there are many reasons that lead to enzyme deficiency in the human body. For example, environmental pollution causes the human body to absorb a large amount of waste gas, and the vegetables we usually eat contain too many chemicals. This will lead to a lack of enzyme components in the human body for a long time, which will seriously affect human health.
