What are the allergic symptoms of tetanus shots? What are the adverse reactions?

Tetanus shots are a way for people to prevent wound infections, but some people will experience allergic reactions in their bodies after getting the tetanus shot. So, what are the symptoms of an allergic reaction to a tetanus shot?

What are the symptoms of an allergic reaction to a tetanus shot?

1. The allergic reaction to tetanus shot is the same as that to penicillin. Its more common clinical symptoms are rash and itching. Pay attention to the symptoms of urticaria, fever, swollen lymph nodes, local edema, proteinuria, vomiting, and pain in the joints.

2. After getting a tetanus shot, most patients will experience facial cramps in the early stages, such as being unable to open their mouths, and when biting things, you will feel pain in the muscles in front of your ears. At this time, if you want to open your mouth wider, you will not be able to open it. On the contrary, it will close tighter and tighter.

3. It feels extremely difficult to breathe, and it is very uncomfortable to swallow food. Fever may also occur, and in severe cases, death may even occur. At this time, anti-allergic treatment is required. If the condition is serious, it is best to go to the hospital for emergency treatment.

4. The most serious symptom of tetanus shot is anaphylactic shock, which usually occurs within minutes after the injection. It will make the patient feel very difficult to breathe, and cyanosis will appear. Blood pressure will slowly drop, and even coma may occur. The limbs will begin to stiffen and slowly unfold.

Tetanus antitoxin adverse reactions:

① Allergic shock

② Serum sickness: The main symptoms are urticaria, fever, swollen lymph nodes, local edema, and occasionally proteinuria, vomiting, and joint pain. Erythema, itching, and edema may occur at the injection site. The disease usually occurs 7 to 14 days after injection and is called the delayed type. There are also cases where the disease occurs 2 to 4 days after injection, which is called the accelerated type. If it is the second case, you can treat it symptomatically, use anti-allergic treatment, and use calcium supplements or antihistamines. It usually takes a few days to ten days to recover.
