Traditional Chinese medicine believes that obesity is mostly a disease of deficiency of the root cause and excess of the superficial symptoms. Basic deficiency: Mainly due to Qi deficiency. If accompanied by imbalance of Yin and Yang, there may be Yang deficiency or Qi and Yin deficiency. The disease is in the spleen, kidney, liver, gallbladder, heart and lung. Clinically, it is mainly spleen and kidney Qi deficiency, and liver and gallbladder qi imbalance may also be seen. Biaoduan: Mainly composed of fat, phlegm and turbidity, often with dampness, but not blood stasis or qi stagnation. There may be emphasis and confusion between the real and the fake in the specimens. In clinic, we should focus on the key points, examine the symptoms and find out the causes, and carefully prescribe medicines in order to achieve satisfactory therapeutic effects. The following are seven methods of weight loss using traditional Chinese medicine:
1. Dehumidification method: It is used for obesity caused by poor spleen function and accumulation of dampness. Symptoms include fullness, greasy tongue coating, and deep and fine pulse. Representative prescriptions: such as Zexie Decoction, Ershu Fuling Decoction, Fangyi Huangqi Decoction, etc. 2. Expectorant method: Used for obesity due to phlegm. Symptoms include chest tightness due to qi deficiency, drowsiness, laziness, white and greasy tongue coating, fat tongue and slippery pulse. For mild cases, use Erchen Decoction, Pingchen Decoction, Sanzi Yangqin Decoction; for severe cases, use Kongxiandan, Daotan Decoction, etc. 3. Water-removing method: There is a distinction between subtle pursuit and push pursuit. Symptoms include obesity, edema, watery urine, abdominal distension, and a thin and deep pulse. For mild expulsion, use Wupi Drink and Xiaofenqing Drink. For severe expulsion, use Zhouche Pills and Shizao Tang. 4. Bowel-clearing method: Mainly mild diarrhea. It is mostly used for obesity caused by eating too much fatty and sweet food. Symptoms include a distended abdomen, wheezing when moving, thick yellow tongue coating, and a strong pulse. Choose Dachengqi Decoction, Xiaochengqi Decoction, Tiaoweichengqi Decoction or single-ingredient rhubarb tablets. 5. Digestion method: Used for obesity due to loss of appetite. Symptoms include obesity, laziness, abdominal distension, food accumulation, and white tongue coating. Generally, hawthorn is used to eliminate meat accumulation, Shenqu is used to eliminate surface accumulation, and malt is used to eliminate food accumulation. 6. Soothing the Liver and Promoting Gallbladder: Used for obesity with liver depression, qi stagnation or blood stasis. Symptoms include obesity accompanied by flank pain, irritability, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal distension, yellow tongue coating, and stringy pulse. Commonly chosen medicines include Wen Dan Tang, Shu Gan Yin, Xiao Zhang San, Xiao Yao San, etc. 7. Spleen strengthening method: The correct treatment for obesity is to strengthen the spleen and stomach. Symptoms include spleen deficiency, weak qi, decreased appetite, fatigue, pale white tongue coating, and thin and feeble pulse. Commonly used prescriptions include Shenling Baizhu San, Yigong San, Zhimu Wan, Wuling San, etc. |
