Maxillary sinus surgery sequelae

Our nose is composed of many parts, and the maxillary sinus is one of them. The maxillary sinus is distributed on both sides of the nose. The nose is also a fragile place and is prone to inflammation, such as sinusitis, maxillary sinus cysts, nasal polyps, etc. Maxillary sinus cysts are formed when the mucous glands in the sinus mucosa are blocked, secretions in the glands are retained, or due to inflammation, serous fluid retention and swelling occurs. They require surgical removal. Currently, the surgeries for this type of maxillary sinus cysts are all cyst removal, which generally does not have any sequelae and is a minimally invasive surgery.

The maxillary sinus is a conical cavity inside the maxillary bone. The sinus wall is made of bone, most of which is a thin compact bone plate with a little cancellous bone inside. The thinnest part is only compact bone. The sinus wall is directly covered with mucosa, and the blood vessels and nerves that control the teeth and periodontal tissues pass through the alveolar canal in the bone or under the mucosa.

The sinuses are air-filled bony cavities surrounding the nasal cavity. There are four pairs of sinuses: the frontal sinuses, sphenoid sinuses, ethmoid sinuses, and maxillary sinuses. There are sinus openings connected to the nasal cavity, and inflammation is prone to occur when drainage is not smooth.
