Side effects of meningococcal ac vaccine

Side effects of meningococcal ac vaccine

Vaccinations are given to protect against certain serious diseases. Of course, this avoidance rate is not 100%. But the success rate is not low. Generally speaking, it is best to get vaccinated. The meningococcal AC vaccine was developed to protect children against epidemic meningitis and is a universal vaccine. However, even so, the vaccine has certain side effects.

So, what are the side effects of meningococcal AC vaccine? In fact, the success rate of vaccination is very high, which proves that the vast majority of vaccinated people will not experience adverse reactions. In addition, it is also possible that the adverse reaction is caused by other reasons, and it happens just after the vaccination. Let’s learn about the side effects of meningococcal AC vaccine.

The purpose of immunization is to stimulate the body to produce an immune response against certain specific antigens. Side effects, or adverse reactions, are marginal effects caused by vaccines and have nothing to do with the original intention of the vaccine to produce immunity. Vaccine adverse reactions include any unfavorable reaction that occurs after immunization. An adverse reaction may be caused by the vaccine or it may be a coincidental event. The meningococcal vaccine does not have side effects on every child. If there are side effects, it is usually a low-grade fever, and very rarely a high fever. Your baby has a low-grade fever, so you don't have to worry. You can only use physical cooling, such as ice packs or cold towels. Never use medicine. It will be fine after the reaction passes.

The full name of meningococcal meningitis, commonly known as encephalitis, is transmitted through the respiratory tract. The meningococcal bacteria are carried in some healthy people and can cause illness when the body's resistance is reduced. The symptoms are severe and the mortality rate is high. Some surviving patients are left with lifelong sequelae (dementia). Meningococcal disease is divided into 13 serotypes, including A, B, C, Y, and W135. There is no immune protection between them. In the past, group A was the main serotype in my country. In recent years, the incidence of group C has gradually increased, reaching nearly 50%, and group C is more dangerous. The National Immunization Program stipulates that the two basic vaccinations for meningococcal disease are group A meningococcal disease (polysaccharide vaccine), and one shot of group A+C meningococcal disease polysaccharide vaccine is given each at the age of 3 and 6, free of charge. Children under 2 years old are a high-risk group for meningococcal meningitis, and ordinary A+C polysaccharide vaccines cannot be used for children under 2 years old. Therefore, vaccination with A+C group meningococcal conjugate vaccine becomes an important means to protect children under 2 years old from group C meningococcal meningitis, and vaccination is recommended. In addition, combined vaccines have an immune memory effect, and the duration of immune effect is better than that of polysaccharide vaccines.

It should be noted here that vaccination is still necessary, but if you have some doubts about the vaccination, or are afraid that your child will be harmed or have adverse reactions, you can ask your doctor whether the vaccination can be done before vaccination. The meningococcal AC vaccine has side effects, but its success rate is very high. If you do not get vaccinated, you should take precautions against epidemic meningitis in your daily life.
