Reasons for delayed menstruation in girls

Reasons for delayed menstruation in girls

There are many reasons why girls have delayed menstruation, which most girls should know. In fact, women have many worries in their lives, and menstruation is one of them. Moreover, this worry will stay with them for most of their lives and will never leave them. In fact, girls worry about menstruation mainly because it is very painful in many cases and the menstrual cycle is sometimes irregular.

The menstrual cycle of most girls is not very stable, with an error of one or two days every month. This is mainly related to endocrine and physical conditions, and of course it is also related to work and living environment. So, what are the reasons for girls' delayed menstruation? Let's analyze it in detail below.

The female menstrual cycle is generally 28 to 30 days. About 7 days earlier or later is still within the normal range, and the length of the cycle varies from person to person. However, if menstruation does not occur after more than 7 days, it is considered delayed menstruation. There are two main reasons for delayed menstruation: pregnancy and irregular menstruation.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that menstrual fluid comes from the kidneys, pointing out that menstrual disorders are related to kidney function, and are also related to the spleen, liver, qi and blood, Chong Mai, Ren Mai, and uterus. There are mainly two types: one is deficiency syndrome, that is, "pain if not nourished", which is caused by weak qi and blood or liver and kidney deficiency. People in this type of syndrome should pay attention to regulating and replenishing qi and blood or nourishing the liver and kidneys. The second is the positive syndrome, that is, "pain due to obstruction", which is caused by the poor circulation of Qi and blood. People in this category should remove blood stasis and relieve pain.

1. Pregnancy

For women of childbearing age who have had sexual life, when their menstruation is delayed, they often doubt whether it is menstruation abnormality or they are pregnant. This problem is a very common phenomenon in daily life. How to rule out pregnancy and how to determine whether it is a menstrual disease are the first issues that need to be clarified. First, determine whether you are pregnant. If your menstrual cycle has always been normal, with no signs of delay, and there are some signs of pregnancy, you should use an early pregnancy test strip to test your urine on the fifth day after your delayed period (or the fifth day calculated from the start of your period). If the test result is positive, you should have a gynecological pelvic examination. If the cervix changes to purple-blue, the uterus is full or enlarged, and there may be accompanying symptoms such as breast tenderness and nausea, you can be diagnosed with pregnancy. Of course, B-ultrasound can also quickly determine whether you are pregnant.

2. Side effects of drugs

For example, endocrine disorders after long-term use of contraceptives can also cause delayed menstruation. Doctors also found, based on patient feedback, that a new generation of gastric motility drug, metoclopramide, also known as domperidone, may also cause this condition. Since metoclopramide does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, it is believed that it has no inhibitory effect on central dopamine receptors. Central dopamine receptors are inhibited, resulting in a decrease in the amount of hypothalamic release factors entering the anterior pituitary. As a result, the anterior pituitary secretes less gonadotropin and corticotropin, leading to amenorrhea and delayed ovulation.

3. Caused by surgery

1. Menstruation after surgical or medical abortion is determined by the degree of recovery of the endometrial wall, which may cause delayed menstruation to a large extent.

2. Uterine surgery can cause cervical adhesions and lead to menstrual blood stasis, thus delaying menstruation.

4. Endocrine disorders

Endocrine reasons such as polycystic ovary syndrome and premature ovarian failure can also lead to delayed menstruation. Timely examination should be carried out and treatment should be started as soon as abnormalities are found.

There are many reasons why girls' menstruation is delayed, and the reasons introduced above are only a small part of the many reasons, but they are also some of the most common reasons. Knowing the reasons for delayed menstruation in girls is actually of certain benefit to our girls, as it can help us prevent these reasons in the future.
