Taking too many anti-aging drugs is like taking drugs

Taking too many anti-aging drugs is like taking drugs

Some medicines with beauty, health and anti-aging functions, such as vitamin C, vitamin E... have become a daily necessity for their loyal followers - one must take one after every meal and persist for a long time. But do you know that blindly pursuing "anti-aging" may lead to poisoning?

Vitamin E (Tocopherol):

Large doses (more than 100 mg per day) and long-term use may cause various non-specific discomforts. If used for more than 6 months, it is easy to cause adverse reactions such as platelet aggregation and thrombosis. If the daily dosage exceeds 400 mg and the medication is taken for more than 1 year, especially when used in combination with estrogen, the chance of inducing thrombophlebitis is greatly increased.

Vitamin C:

Taking large doses may cause diarrhea, as well as cystine precipitation or oxalate stone formation in the urinary tract.

Penicillamine:

Long-term use can irritate the kidneys and cause leukopenia.

Trace elements:

If the content in the human body is too high, it can cause many adverse consequences. Too much zinc can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Excessive cobalt is toxic to the myocardium, causing heart failure and death. Excessive selenium can cause baldness, abnormal nails, skin discoloration, etc.; selenium poisoning can cause gastrointestinal dysfunction, dizziness, loss of libido, fatigue, nervousness, depression, etc. Animal experiments have shown that selenium can also cause embryonic deformities. Excessive iron content in the human body can have obvious adverse reactions on the pancreas and gonads.

Anti-aging Chinese medicine:

Although this type of Chinese medicine is known for its low or non-toxicity, it should not be abused. For example, ginseng is listed as a top-grade product for delaying aging, but its use in large doses (such as taking more than 3 grams of ginseng root per day) can cause "ginseng abuse syndrome." Taking 0.6-0.9 grams of ginseng may cause poisoning in newborn babies. Deer antler essence injection can cause rash, anaphylactic shock, acute cardiogenic cerebral hypoxia syndrome, palpitations, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, exfoliative dermatitis, etc. Danshen injection can cause menorrhagia, general fatigue, drowsiness, headache, nasal mucosal bleeding, bleeding gums, etc.

Honey:

Although it is a must-take product for centenarians in ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad, poisoning accidents have occurred frequently. Paroxysmal convulsions, restlessness, and even respiratory paralysis may also occur after taking Polygonum multiflorum. Some compound preparations of anti-aging Chinese medicines should also be used with caution for long-term use. Overdose of Shuangbaosu (containing ginseng and royal jelly) can cause the central nervous system to be in a state of extreme excitement, which can easily lead to mania. Liuwei Dihuang Pills can cause urticaria-type drug rash. The traditional formula of Shenrong Weisheng Pills contains cinnabar, which can cause mercury poisoning if used for a long time.

To avoid adverse reactions, do the following:

1) Apply the supplement correctly and take it as needed. Ask your doctor to choose the type and dosage of anti-aging drugs based on your specific situation. Make sure not to overdo the supplementation and do not overdo it.

2) If you choose the drug yourself, you must understand the drug's applicable range, dosage, contraindications, and possible toxic and side effects to avoid accidental ingestion and overdose, which may cause adverse consequences.

3) Pay attention to medication reactions during medication. If drug rash, fever, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc. occur, stop taking the medicine immediately, find out the cause, and treat it symptomatically.
