How to treat mumps

Mumps is actually an acute respiratory infectious disease, and this disease is generally more common among children and adolescents, and will seriously affect their physical health. Therefore, when facing this disease, we need to pay more attention and actively receive treatment, so as to reduce some adverse effects as much as possible. Let’s learn about the treatment of mumps.

When facing this disease, patients need to be advised to pay attention to it, because no matter how serious it is, if we do not actively receive treatment, it will also bring us adverse effects, and sometimes it will also lead to more diseases, so we must actively treat this problem.

Epidemic parotitis mumps, also known as mumps or mumps, is a common respiratory infectious disease among children and adolescents, caused by the mumps virus. The prominent symptom is non-purulent swelling and pain of the parotid gland. The virus can invade various glandular tissues or the nervous system and almost all organs such as the liver, kidneys, heart, and joints. Therefore, it can often cause symptoms such as meningoencephalitis, orchitis, pancreatitis, mastitis, and oophoritis.

Medication

Isolate the patient and keep him/her on bed rest until the parotid swelling subsides completely. Pay attention to oral hygiene, change to liquid and soft food, avoid acidic food, and ensure liquid intake.

Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine: internal and external treatment. For internal use, the Puji Xiaodu Yin prescription is the main one, with modifications based on symptoms. For local application, you can use Zijin Ding or Qingdai Powder mixed with vinegar and apply it several times a day. You can also grind 30g of Jinhuang Powder and Hibiscus Leaf into powder, soak 9g of chrysanthemum juice and add appropriate amount of honey to mix, apply it twice a day. You can also use dandelion, Commelina, narcissus root, Purslane, etc. to mash and apply externally to relieve local swelling and pain.

General antibiotics and sulfa drugs are ineffective. The efficacy of antiviral drugs is uncertain. Interferon seems to have a certain effect, but it does not shorten the course of the disease. Ribavirin and other drugs may have anti-mumps virus effects and can be tried for critically ill patients. There is no definite effect of adrenal cortical hormone treatment, but short-term use can be considered for severe cases or complications such as meningoencephalitis, myocarditis or orchitis.

Local irradiation of helium-neon laser in the treatment of mumps has a certain effect on relieving pain and swelling.

High fever, headache, vomiting, etc. can be treated symptomatically, including dehydrating agents. Complications are treated according to the condition.

In the early stages of the disease, male adult patients can take diethylstilbestrol, 1 mg/time, 3 times/day, orally, which may be effective in preventing the occurrence of orchitis.

The above is about the medication treatment of mumps. Of course, if we don’t know much about this problem, it is recommended to seek medical examination, because if you treat it indiscriminately, it will easily bring greater impact on your health. I hope every patient can pay attention to it.
