Causes of colitis

Causes of colitis

The occurrence of colitis can be serious enough to affect our physical health, because we all know that if colitis occurs, it will often cause abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea and other problems, which will have varying degrees of impact on our physical health and life. So do you know some of the causes of colitis? Let’s take a closer look at the issue of colitis.

When colitis occurs, you must actively receive treatment and never ignore the care and health issues of this disease, otherwise it will have a more adverse impact on your health. Therefore, I hope everyone should receive timely treatment when encountering this disease.

Colitis, also known as nonspecific ulcerative colitis, usually has a slow onset and the severity of the disease varies. The main clinical manifestations are diarrhea, abdominal pain, mucus and bloody stools, tenesmus, and even constipation, inability to defecate for several days; sometimes diarrhea and sometimes constipation, often accompanied by weight loss and fatigue, and often recurring. Abdominal pain is usually dull pain or colic, often located in the left lower abdomen or lower abdomen. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting and liver enlargement; there may be tenderness in the left lower abdomen, and sometimes the spasmodic colon can be felt. Common systemic symptoms include weight loss, fatigue, fever, anemia, etc. In a small number of patients, the condition suddenly worsens during the chronic course of the disease or becomes explosive at the first onset, with symptoms such as severe diarrhea, 10-30 times a day, and stool containing blood, pus, and mucus, as well as high fever, vomiting, tachycardia, exhaustion, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, coma, and even colon perforation. Failure to receive timely treatment may result in death.

Diet principles for colitis

1. Low-fiber, low-fat foods can promote intestinal peristalsis and stimulate the intestinal wall, but they are difficult to digest and are not good for the intestines, so they should be limited.

2. Pay attention to supplementing protein and vitamins.

3. If chronic enteritis causes dehydration and low sodium, you should replenish your body with light salt water and drink vegetable leaf soup to replenish the loss of water, salt and vitamins.

4. When flatulence and diarrhea are too severe, you should eat less sugar and easily fermented foods, such as potatoes, beans, milk, etc.

5. Persimmons, pomegranates, and apples all contain tannic acid and pectin, which have astringent and antidiarrheal effects. They can be eaten in moderation for chronic colitis.

While treating colitis, dietary health issues in daily life cannot be ignored, because colitis is originally a gastrointestinal problem. If you do not pay attention to your dietary principles, it will lead to the aggravation of the disease. So I hope everyone can pay more attention to these dietary principles.
